file server: %U or %u?
PS: the short way to explain %u is adding domain/workgroup to username is
the fact we are using trust relationship?

Probably, what you have to get your head around is this:
The users 'fred', 'DOMAINA\fred' and 'DOMAINB\fred' are all different
users. Winbind will

[Samba4] 4.3.0 trust relationship
Hi all,
I was testing the 4.3.0 version to see what is available with trust
relationship but except having my DCs telling me there are trust
relationship and using the global catalog to perform search (but with only
search for object in a.domain.tld when search is performed against
dc.a.domain.tld) I can do nothing else.
My own knowledge on that subject is quiet null so I come to you asking some

Which AD version Samba4 can simulate?
Hi all,
I'm wondering which version of Active Directory Samba4 can simulate. Of
course we know Samba4 is not yet able to simulate the whole AD, things are
still missing as Trust Relationship to name one, but for things which are
working, until which version of Windows Server / AD can we compare Samba4 /
AD?
Hoping this question was clear enough...
Thanks and regards,
mathias

Winbind cannot find/connect to PDC.
Hi all.
Funny thing happend: I had winbindd working, but now I can't get it back
up correctly. I'm not sure what I'm doing differently.
Samba version 2.2.5.
'wbinfo -u' says "Error looking up domain users". I joined the domain
with the command: 'smbpasswd -j OUR_DOMAIN -r thepdc -U Administrator'
and this returned saying "Joined domain

the home dir was not being pulled from AD,
with a bit of net searching i found this from the samba mail archives

Samba 4 + Squidguardian
Hi,
I´m have a Samba 4 Domain Member that I use like a Proxy Server. I use
Squid with NTLM Athentication and work perfecly. My problem is Squidguard
with NTLM Authentication. If I use Samba 4.2.X in my Samba 4 Domain
Controler I watch in Squid LOG only the user name but If I use Samba 4.1.x
or 4.3.0 in my Domain Controler I watch in Squid LOG domain\\user name and

Increasing database size limit
Hi all,
Would it be really complex to add some code to have more database files?
The database I have to fill is too large to be hosted into
$samba_db/private/DC=DOMAIN,DC=EXAMPLE,DC=COM which is limited to 4GB.
The idea would be to create files to host OUs created a domain's root level.
For example an OU to host groups: OU=Groups,DC=DOMAIN,DC=EXAMPLE,DC=COM
would be hosted in file named:

Mounting home directory from Windows in Linux
Hi All,
I'm using samba 3.0.10-1 on RedHat Enterprise Linux 4.
I'm authentication to our PDC using Winbind and also mounting our home
directory share (from Windows) onto our main Linux server such that when
a user logs on to the Linux server, their Windows home directory is
mounted also.
I'm using the domain admin account to mount the home directory share,
which I feel is

Upgrading Samba 3 to Samba 4 with Active Directory at many sites
First, background information. We are a large (geographically local)
organization with 50 sites, including our HQ. Each site has a Debian Server
running Samba in NT-Domain Controller mode. Each site is independant of the
next, but are all named <SITE>.example.com. The workstations are connected,
and working fine in our sites with the single servers.
We had a recent network upgrade that now

joining a Centos7 to MS AD
Hi Rowland,
Thank you for your reply. I'll provide these information but for now I'm
suspecting Samba and others things could be installed in a strange manner.
I have to check that first...

mathias

getent group [groupname] do not show users
Hi all,
With Samba 4.4.5, on member servers (I did not tried yet on DCs), using
"getent group" with or without specifying a group name groups are shown but
they are shown as empty groups, no user name is displayed.
Is there a way to make them displayed?
Cheers,
Mathias
