Samba not seeing any interfaces
I've built samba for an embedded mips platform. Since this is an embedded platform, it's possible that some critical file that samba needs is missing but stracing the daemons doesn't reveal anything strange. It's running 2.4.34 kernel. Samba is failing to find any interfaces. [2000/01/02 10:55:01, 3] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(759) Opening sockets 137 [2000/01/02 10:55:01, 10]

no network interfaces found on OpenIndiana (Illumos)
Hi, I've downloaded the samba 3.6.12 OpenCSW package. I joined openindiana to the the active directory, winbind seems to work fine, I see all the users with "wbinfo -u". However, my samba server is not starting. It seems that there is no network card found. 2013/03/06 10:40:39.068405, 0] lib/interface.c:543(load_interfaces) WARNING: no network interfaces found [2013/03/06

kvm and shorevall-init
Hello, I''m migrating my laptop setup to a shiny new ThnikPad W520 and in the process am getting rid of VirtualBox (marked by kernel maintainers as "unsupportable crap" or some such) and shifting to virt-manager/kvm. As with the old setup I am running shorewall-init exactly as the great online documentation lays it out. BUT: with VBox it was enough to add > net

nmbd over ppp
hello everyone. I don't have a network, but I'm trying to get my friend to dialin and use my shares that I have provided via smb. Now I have a big prob with nmbd and ppp. Under Interfaces I can specify ppp* 192.168.0.2 , which is the ip that the dialin user is assigned and yet still nmbd shuts down showing an error that no interfaces were found. # route -n Kernel IP routing

Samba problem
Hello, My only hard drive failed on a private server so I had to replace it and reinstall Centos 6.5 and Samba. My smb.conf file is OK according to "testparm". I configured smb and nmb, with chkconfig, to start when the system boots. After the system boots if I do "service nmb status" I get the response "nmbd dead but pid file exists". I can delete the pid file

Running smb without nmb? (Linux Suse 8.1 feature)
I recently upgraded my Linux distro to SuSE 8.1 which came w/samba 2.2.5. A feature of the upgrade was that it 'split' the startup script for samba from 1 script for _smb_ & _nmb_ to 2 scripts. Now the prologue (used by insserv to create the numbered startup scripts with dynamic numbering based on dependencies in the prologues of all the startup scripts for a given run level) says

snmp statistics for vnics
1 simple question about network statistics for vnics: We noticed that the statistics for vnics (used by Virtualbox guests) are not there. When the nics are plumped in the host OS, we do see them showing up, but all all records are 0. Can someone tell me how to get the correct network info via snmp on the Vbox Host?? Thanks in advance. new IP on an iface and nmb's behaviour
hi everyone, I observe a peculiar "behaviour" behaviour of nmb, peculiar to me at least, could be that "this is how it works", thus asking. If I add an IP on the iface that nmb is already operating then I see such a message: Samba name server GOER is now a local master browser for workgroup PRIV_NET on subnet 192.168.2.204 204 is that new IP, but then windows boxes do

Samba-3.0.34 can ADS join but not non-ADS join.
I was using Samba-3.0.14a perfectly fine. Now, I'm trying to use Samba-3.0.34. I can do an "ADS" join fine with Samba-3.0.34, but I cannot do my old non-ADS join anymore. Winbindd starts and stays running fine, but when I run net to do the non-ADS join I'm running into a strange "interfaces" issue. It now wants an "interfaces" line in the smb.conf file when

samba dhcp issue
I have sort of the same problem that other people have reported with nmb. Only in my case i'm running dhcp client. It appears that the ip address is not being assigned quickly enough as this is what nmb complains about in the log:no local interfaces. Once i login to kde and su to root in a term session, I can issue the restart command and it works very nicely:). So what,if any, is the

Functionality of Nmbd at Active Directory mode of Samba4 !
As I know runnig of Nmbd at Acitve Directory mode is quite unofficial now (but possible) . I will not ask why it is not reccomded to run Nmbd within Samba4 started at AD mode. But if somebody can tell, you are wellcome. But when nmb code implementation is planned to AD part ? That is when nmb functionnality adding to Samba4 acting as AD is planned ? Reloading Smb.conf automatically?
Just a few quick questions: If I make changes to smb.conf, do I need to restart the SMB and NMB services, or is it like Vixie Cron, where it'll re-read the file and adapt changes every minute? Why do I have multiple NMB instances running, but only one SMB? Thanks for the help! Aton
