Ubuntu and ZFS
Moved from Richard's blog to here....
A couple of people have requested removing the dependency on zfs-fuse
from the ubuntu packages that Richard released last week, and there is
some confusion about the state of ZFS in Ubuntu.
There are 2 Linux compatible implementations of ZFS, zfs-fuse
(http://gitweb.zfs-fuse.net/) and ZFS on Linux (http://zfsonlinux.org/).
ZFS-fuse is in the official

Proper unix ownership/Permissions for top level share
I am using zfs on linux to store my file shares on. When I create a new
file system, they have the following permissions:
[root at server ~]# zfs create tank/testsystem
[root at server ~]# ls -Al /tank
drwxrwxrwx+ 10 root root 27 Jun 2 20:10 Software
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2 Jun 3 07:43 testsystem
At this point, if I use the rsat and attempt to set ACL, I get

Can't write to share.
HI all,
Having fixed the group issues from solaris having a default max of 16
groups I can now locally create and delete files on the solaris box as a
domain user
However when accessed via samba I can not create new files/folders
(although I can delete the files I created when logged on locally)
I have created a temporary directory on a non zfs (non acl enabled) file
system to see if that

Setting ACLs with smbcacls fails (partly)
Hello,
I'm running a PDC and a secondary DC in privilegded lxc containers and
try to setup a fileserver in an unprivileged lxc container.
The shares of the file server are on the ZFS of the host and mapped via
bind-mount.
I've got the problem, that I get error messages when setting the ACLs of
a samba share either via the Windows explorer or using the smbcacls command.
On Windows

When was the last time you checked?
The ZFS-on-Linux (ZoL) code has been stable for years. In recent months, the BSDs have rebased their offerings from Illumos to ZoL. The macOS port, called O3X, is also mostly based on ZoL.

Issues accessing ZFS-shares on Linux
Hi,
I am having a really strange problem with my Samba shares on Debian
Buster. None of the users can access any shares, which reside on
ZFS-filesystem. Any other share works just fine. For example, if I
create a normal folder to /home with same permissions and replace a
ZFS-share with that, it works fine.
When accessing any ZFS-shares the following error is recorded:

Domain Member Server: Domain Users cannot access shares
Re: zfs...
The odd thing is... It's not mdadm that's acting up, at least not in my
opinion, as I have had two other domain member servers at other locations
that host shares on filesystems that are raid arrays built with mdadm. The
only difference between those boxes and this one is the LSI MegaRaid
controller. Now I'm no expert when it comes to this controller, the box
shipped with

Issues accessing ZFS-shares on Linux
I added one testshare /home/testijako and connected to it with the same
credentials as I would connect to ZFS-shares. Then I did the strace to
that particular PID and tried connecting to one ZFS-share. There was
indeed an error which might have something to do with this issue:
Line 2001: lstat("/tank/rex", 0x7fff1f6fb2c0) = -1 ENOENT (No such
file or directory)
