Public file share Samba 4.6.5
I am trying to configure a public file share on \\fs1\vol1
From a Windows 7 command prompt, I enter: dir \\fs1\vol1
Windows says: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
Where am I going wrong?
Error log says: " SPNEGO login failed: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER" - that
must have something to do with this, but I thought that was the point of
"map to guest = Bad User"

File server questions
Hi!
Just to confirm, I don't think there is a way to test if ntp is setup
properly, right?
Moving forward to Winbindd config as describe here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configuring_Winbindd_on_a_Samba_AD_DC
It seems I just need to edit nsswitch.conf and add winbind to passwd and
group databases, correct?
The guide says tipically no configuration is required in smb.conf for

SOLVED: WINBIND: UID and GID false mappings on domain member
I bump this only to say SOLVED and many thanks to Rowland.
Lessons learned:
1.
Indeed, my problems where related to not having a gidNumber for "Domain
Users".
After adding it I got real wbinfo --user-info on the domain member (file
server).
My test user could log in in his old home from the NT domain preserving the
old UID and GID.
2. (question = why?)
And login.bat was called at

Any other ideas?
Am I the only one with Debian 10.4 and samba seeing this behavior?

samba-tool syntax error?
I am using the following syntax to create a new user
samba-tool user add user passwd --userou=Faculty --given-name=new

Which gives me the following error:

Ring file
When I call into my Asterisk system, before the call is picked up, I
hear a ring tone.
What is that tone called & where is stored and configured.
I'd like to replace the ring with an announcement that is played until
the call is picked up or put into voicemail.

Zhone Zplex 10 units
Mine has been working well, but the only problem is that it doesn't
support callerid (from the POTS side).

Problems with groups, minimum gidnumber?
I have succesfully migrated our users (~3900) from our Samba 3 DC/OpenLDAP,
complete with passwords.
I have some 300 + groups that I'm trying to get migrated to our Samba 4 AD.
I can create the groups, but it looks from the domain-member's side that
groups don't work as I expect them to.
- Not all groups seems to be visible by using 'getent group'. It looks like

Error in https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders
Hi all,
can I freely create an account for the Wiki and do changes? Or should I notify someone (Rowland)?
I found a small error in https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders . The wiki mentions as rights on the share Read and Execute for Authenticated Users, but on that level I see only Full Control, Change and Read. My assumption is that it should be Change and Read for Authenticated

[home] trash folder
Hi,
i have a share called [home]. Designed like described here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders#Creating_the_Home_Folder_for_a_New_User.
First i have no problems but i want to enable a trash folder for each
user. At this time i have about 8000 home directories. The directorys
are subfolders from [home].
Is it possible to enable a trash folder inside the home directory

User Home Folders
Following the "User Home Folders" page on the wiki using
Group Policy
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders
I see this page was last updated in March 2017.
Not sure if anything has changed.
Although I can access the shares, the %LogonUser% directory
does not seem to be automatically generating.
Thoughts?
