Remove stale DRS replication partner
Hi James, thanks a lot for your hint. However, I seem to be unable to find it there. Can you please be a little more specific? I tried to check the replication topology, but no success. Thanks a lot! How to fully remove entries to dead windows server
To save the whole back story, I borked everything and had to restore from backups. DC1 and DC2 (Samba DC's) came back fine DC3 (Windows 2008 DC) did not come back. Which is fine, I wanted to decommission it anyway. I have seized all the FSMO roles (because DC3 previously held them all) and replication SEEMS to be OK (users created on each machine replicate across instantly, although

Upgrading from old 4.1 sernet-samba AD to source release with AD
Hi guys, I have sernet-samba-client-4.1.21-11.el6.x86_64 with 5 DC's running in AD mode and I need to look at upgrading them to the latest source version of Samba with AD support. All servers are running Centos 6.x and the same Samba release. I see the Wiki mentions "Upgrade A DC and join it to the domain again" however I'm not sure in terms of upgrading how this process will

Upgrading Samba
Hi Rowland I read the threads suggested by Louis (thanks Louis ! ) . As far as I understand , there could be a DNS issue between 4.8.x and 4.9.x. I will try at least to add a new 4.7.12 DC to the domain (the only one current DC is 4.6.7) and check everything is ok . (I take the 4.7.12 because I guess It is the most stable in the 4.7.x branch , am I right ?) . After that , I may try to

Samba-4.17 joining an existing domain.
i86_64 CentOS-6.5 sernet-samba-4.1.7 MS Windows Advanced Server 2000 We have a very old MS-Windows Domain Controller running on equally old hardware that we wish to replace with a Samba4 installation running on a virtualised CentOS-6.5 . Other than most user desktops this is the last remaining MS based system here and we would really, really like to shut it down. Our plan is to join two Samba4

This fixed one issue - made the network shares appear again across all clients. A new one has been discovered though on one of our CentOS 5.11 boxes. Any command (like sudo or ssh) that needs authentication

Moving DC1 to a Virtual Machine
Hello I have primary and secondary Samba 4 DCs running very nicely with replication. I have DC1 using the official Backup scripts. We are moving these to virtual machines. We are changing the Linux OS on DC1 from Gentoo to Ubuntu. REAL DC1 = FSMO Role REAL DC1 = Gentoo REAL DC2 = Ubuntu VIRTUAL DC1 = Ubuntu What is the correct way to change DC1 to a virtual machine? Do I just restore from

ad dc demotion fails trying to use non-existent dc as 'partner server for the4 demontion'
I'm trying to demote dc3 from msad dc service. As the root user, I type this command: samba-tool domain demote -Uadministrator which fails with this error: "Using dc2.infinity.local as partner server for the demotion" The problem is that dc2 was demoted some weeks ago, and is no longer running samba4. Is there a way I can force dc3 to use a different dc as the

Problem joining domain [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
UNCLASSIFIED I built another PC using Centos7 and samba 4.1.7. This got further but gave a segmentation fault. On successive runs, I got: Your filesystem or build does not support posix ACLs, which s3f3 requires. (This is BS) So I tried the next version that I had downloaded 4.3.3. With this I was able to successfully join the domain. I am thinking to: 1) seize roles with samba 3.3 server 2)

DomainDnsZones inbound replication issue
Greetings, I am having a problem with one of my DCs (DC3) replicating DomainDnsZones. On DC3 replication is successful on both Inbound and Outbound with both of my other DCs. On both of my other DCs (DC1 & DC2) I only get a failure with Inbound replication for DomainDnsZones from DC3 with a result 8442 (WERR_DS_DRA_INTERNAL_ERROR). If I try to force replication to DC3 from DC1 using
