Testing samba4 connection on Windows
Hi, I installed samba4 (zentyal 3.4) and I followed the Samba4 AD DC Howto from the wiki to test the linux-side. There all seems OK. Unfortunately, when I try to register a Win7 PC, the domain is not found. So what can I do to test things on the Windows-side ? I did : C:\net view /domain:ace_domain returns : \\ZENTYAL1 which is my DC After manually "mounting" the test1-share : C:\net

ransomware etc
Hi all, Just out of curiosity: is there anything we can do, on the samba side, to counter the recent ransomware attacks? (or limit the damage done) I'm thinking like: limit the number of files per second a client (workstation) is allowed to edit, or some other smart tricks..? It would be nice if samba could be an extra layer of defense. Something perhaps a vfs module could help with..?

Windows link in linux share...
Sorry, quick messages without clue. Here we use roaming profiles, with quota, and thunderbird. Thunderbird put IMAP Cache and global search index (ImapMail and global-messages-db.sqlite) in 'roaming' folder, while they are cache, so can be put in 'local' folder, out of roaming part. I've fund: > https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=517425#c49 and setup a logon

samba-4.6.6 memory consumption is more!!
Hi Team, We have downloaded samba-4.6.6, compiled and installed it in our device (ONT) which has RAM of 256 MB. After samba server is started, it occupied 30 MB of RAM. As far as our device is concerned 30 MB RAM is high. 1) Is it possible to reduce the RAM size of samba server? Is there any configurable option in smb.conf for this? 2) The image size of smbd and smbpasswd alone is 4

Network disks not unmounting
When I log in into the domain a logon script is started that assigns some network drives. But when I log and on again the script gives an error in the form of: The local device name is already in use Is this a bug or is it just windows? Can anybody tell me how to solve this? -- smb.conf -- [global] netbios name = BARAD-DUR workgroup = MIDDLE-EARTH server string =

[External] Re: Error in setwd(dir) when initializing R
Dear Ana When you installed R it gave you an option to put a shortcut on the desktop. If you did that then you can start the R GUI by clicking on it. You may need to customise it for your preferences. Specifically it starts R with an option cd-user-docs which I delete and I then alter the starting option to start in the directory I want. You may have different preferences of course. Try

Thunderbird, CSC and files/folder...
Hi, In my experience Thunderbird does not work on a directory that has CSC/offline files in use without major problems. We use shares that have no offline caching in use for Thunderbird profiles, and those work only when the user is online. Whent that is not an option: put your profile on %localappdata% with no synchronization at all. As long as you access mail only via imap (no pop3) and you

hang with rsync 3.0.0pre7 doing local copy
I've noticed the 3.0.0pre versions sometimes hanging while doing a local copy (through dirvish). This time a had a binary with debugging symbols, so I could do gdb backtraces. This is the result: # ps -fe | grep rsync root 3712 3710 0 02:04 ? 00:00:03 rsync -vrltH --delete -pgo --stats -D --numeric-ids -x --exclude-from=/backup/0/oudeserver/laatste/exclude

Possible Bug: file.exists() Function. Due to UTF-8 Encoding differences on Windows between R 4.0.1 and R 3.6.3?
Dear Juan, I don't see what is the problem from your report. Please try to create a minimal but complete reproducible example that does not use the renv package. Perhaps you could use the R debugger (e.g. via options(error=recover)) to find out what is the argument that file.exists() has been called with. And then you could try just to call file.exists() directly with that argument to

Errors when running 'puppet agent --test' command
Hello, First of all I am new to the Puppet technology. I am trying to get my puppet agent (windows) to reach my puppet master (Linux) server. In this tutorial: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/learning/agent_master_basic.html It claims to test your puppet agent you need to use the ''puppet agent --test'' command. My result when I tried this is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Puppet

Possible Bug: file.exists() Function. Due to UTF-8 Encoding differences on Windows between R 4.0.1 and R 3.6.3?
Hi Yihui, list.files() returns file names converted to native encoding by Windows, so one needs to use only characters representable in current native encoding for file names. If one wants to be safe, it makes sense to be much stricter than that (only ASCII, and only a subset of it, there is a number of recommendations that can be found online). Using more than that is asking for trouble.

Windows link in linux share...
To reduce the space occupied by Thunderbird IMAP Cache, i've found this: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=517425#c49 and seems works as expencted. I've a bit extended to link also global-messages-db.sqlite (eg, global search index). But after that, i don't find in roaming profile (server side) the link created with mklink. Link are not supported by samba? Thanks. --

Possible Bug: file.exists() Function. Due to UTF-8 Encoding differences on Windows between R 4.0.1 and R 3.6.3?
Hi Tomas, Sorry for the false alarm! I did some further testing, and you were right. There was no regression. I suspected it was a regression because the user who reported the issue said his code worked in R 3.6 but not 4.0. I should have tested it more carefully by myself. After I tested it again with the German locale and Chinese locale, respectively, I found that the code worked for both

Possible Bug: file.exists() Function. Due to UTF-8 Encoding differences on Windows between R 4.0.1 and R 3.6.3?
Dear R Developers, I am having an issue with the renv package and R 4.0.1, which I suspect is related to base R and not the renv package itself, as with R 3.6.3 such an "error" does not appear. The error is raised by a file.exists() path, and path "C:\Users\J-tel\Documents", which in R 3.6.3 is read correctly, but in R 4.0.1 fails (Probably because of the "-"

Dependency Ordering Confusion
I have a module for windows nodes that is defined like: class ast_win { Class[''ast_win::env''] ~> Class[''ast_win::restart''] -> Class[''ast_win''] ast_win::env contains a bunch of scripts that modify the environment on the host machine. Mostly the PATH variable, but also other variables (e.g. http_proxy) that are required for
