Hi, Here's a modified (to protect the customer's information) truncated smb.conf that, for the most part, mirrors what they have: [global] log level = 3 os level = 1 security = ADS server string = TEST CIFS Server workgroup = WG netbios name = FRED1 realm = WB.DOM-NAME.COM idmap config * : range = 10000-20000 log

Access to Windows 2016 server works with IP but not with netbios name
Hi, When I initially tested the "getent passwd testuser01" I got nothing back. I then did: "getent passwd "wg\testuser01"" and got the entry. A "troubleshooting" wiki I was reading suggested adding: "winbind use default domain = yes" to fix that. I added that and was then able to lookup the user without needing the "wg\". In looking at

Is the machine your configuring permissions on joined to the domain that samba is using? That's the last of my advice/querying ability, since DNS is on a proper server (and I assume pointed to the right address on the client as well) On Apr 21, 2016 11:00 PM, "Stefan Fuhrmann" <stefan at fuhrmann.homedns.org> wrote: > Hallo Luke, > > > okay, I attached the

Access to Windows 2016 server works with IP but not with netbios name
Do the "getent passwd" and "getent group" commands show the domain users? I would - at least for testing - skip the "valid users" and "write list" options . I believe that file system level security is sufficient. I think the "wins support" line means this machine is a WINS server. (the "wins server" option would tell the machine

Upgrading Samba 3 to Samba 4 - Domain Controller unreachable
OK, this is working with the Windows 7 clients now. Looks like it was just a reboot. Now I have an issue with the Windows 10 clients... I'll open a new thread about that... I am trying to get a 1 way trust working between two domains and DOM A (which samba is joined to works in mapping users via winbind) just not the one way trust for the other domain.... DOM B Samba is just a joined member of the domain A with security = ads with nothing more than winbind id rid maps for both

@Sonic # /etc/init.d/samba restart [ ok ] Restarting nmbd (via systemctl): nmbd.service. [ ok ] Restarting smbd (via systemctl): smbd.service. [ ok ] Restarting samba-ad-dc (via systemctl): samba-ad-dc.service. I may try rebooting as well, after trying @penny's fix. But that's what I've always been doing. When I use systemctl start nmbd smbd I get no output. On Sat, Apr 2, 2016 at

Testing a forest trusts in Samba 4.4.5 AD environment
Hi List, I am currently testing inter-forest trusts between a pair of AD domains. All DCs and member servers are using Sernet Samba 4.4.5. I have set up conditional forwarding in by Bind setup (I'm using BIND9_DLZ) and all machines can resolve each other. On the DCs, I can see users from the other side of the trust using wbinfo -u --domain=<other domain>. In addition if I set up ID

Deploy software in fileserver folder
Which GPO? Computer or User Configuration? Remember that GPOs need to run as the context of either the computer or the user. Computers typically do not have access to many folders on a file server, even as "Everyone". That is why the NETLOGON folder works. If you're deploying as a USER configuration, then it should run as the context of the user, meaning the Everyone permission

Precision in R
Dear All, I'm preparing a simple algorithm for matrix multiplication for a specific purpose, but I'm getting some unexpected results. If anyone could give a clue, I would really appreciate. Basically what I want to do is a simple matrix multiplication: (WB) %*% t(WB). The WB is in the disk so I compared to approaches: - Load 'WB' using 'read.table' (put it in WB.tmp) and

Upgrading Samba 3 to Samba 4 with Active Directory at many sites
First, background information. We are a large (geographically local) organization with 50 sites, including our HQ. Each site has a Debian Server running Samba in NT-Domain Controller mode. Each site is independant of the next, but are all named <SITE>.example.com. The workstations are connected, and working fine in our sites with the single servers. We had a recent network upgrade that now

winbind limitations
Hi. Does winbind has limitations with lots of users in domain? I'm compiled samba 4.3.1 and created 40 users, so winbind and getent works fine, but when created 26.000 users and "wbinfo -u" doesn't show users. On DC Member Server, "wbinfo -u" and "getent passwd" doesn't show users to. On log.wb-CORP appears: [2016/02/23 18:46:46.319393, 1]
