move from netatalk to samba + vfsfruit
since "ea = samba" was only added to very recent netatalk versions and so don't apply to files with a history of many years what is the way to go get rid of netatalk these days? is there still no tool to read/write the existing netatalk appladouble extended attributes which are *not* compatible with samba and write them back in the new format? afp.conf: appledouble = ea ea = samba

vfs_fruit: xattr imcompatible with netatalk
Hi. I'm testing samba 4.2.0 vfs_fruit on Fedora Server 22-alpha. I confirmed that ResourceFork and FinderInfo are compatible with Netatalk 3.1.7. However, EAs are incompatible. The character ":" in EA name is wrong. The EAs are not seen from clients. smb.conf: [test2] path = /export/test2 writable = yes vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr fruit:locking =

Extended attributes not working on mac
I worked with Netatalk for years and want to switch to Samba now. Currently i use Ubuntu 20.04. and Debian 9 before, i had no issues with netatalk at all. As soon as i try to add a color tag (e.g. yellow) with Mac OS 10.15.5, the tag appears shortly but hides one second later. The file system is ZFS with no special options configured. I tried the Ubuntu package but also the builds from source

Error copying files with extended attributes to Windows clients
When copying files to a Windows 10 client, an error is thrown if the file has extended attributes. In this case, the files were all created by an OS X client with netatalk. I'm using Samba from the Ubuntu 16.04 repository, which is currently 4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.11. In my smb.conf: # Netatalk configuration vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr fruit:encoding = native

vs_fruit - can't write to share
Hi, i'm running Samba 4.2.1 compiled from source on an Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS Server. ACL/XATTR is active and working. I tried to activate the vfs_fruite module and added the sample code: vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr fruit:resource = file fruit:metadata = netatalk fruit:locking = netatalk fruit:encoding = native to the share. In addition i tried the following share definition: vfs

Extended attributes not working on mac
I?m not sure if this is related, but there was a regression a while back in handling resource forks in folder icons. It was supposed to be fixed in 4.10.13 but I don?t think it quite works yet and I haven?t had the time to test it further yet. -Perttu > On 30 May 2020, at 21.00, Martin Steiner / 3MF GmbH via samba <samba at lists.samba.org> wrote: > > I changed the configuration

issues with Time Machine - did macOS change how they handle things?
TL;DR: Time Machine cannot create a *new* backup on my shared drive, but can add to an *existing* backup. I'm running macOS Catalina and my Time Machine backs up to a Debian 10 server with NetAtalk and Avahi. Since Mavericks macOS has preferred SMB, and given SMB is marginally faster I decided to switch to using SMB for the Time Machine shares. On a fresh AFP share I can start a new Time

Mac OS Timemachine over SMB
Is it possible to backup Mac OS devices through a Samba share on Samba 4.4.6 on Fedora 24 with Time Machine? I am able to successfully advertise the share through Avahi, connect to it in Finder, and read/write files. I am also able to see the share as a destination in Time Machine, but selecting it shows an error that "The selected network backup disk does not support the required

MacOS clients - best options
Hi list, we have migrated a single node Samba server from Ubuntu Trusty to a 3-node CTDB Cluster on Debian Bullseye with Sernet packages. Storage is CephFS. We are running Samba in Standalone Mode with LDAP Backend. Samba Version: sernet-samba 99:4.18.2-2debian11 I don't know if it is relevant here's how we have mounted CephFS on the samba nodes: (fstab):/samba /srv/samba ceph
