HTTP Parser (Regal)
Hi I was interested to see how Mongrel uses Lex/Yacc to parse the HTTP
requests using a Regal generated parser. I downloaded the source but do
not see the lex and yacc files...

balancer://mongrel_cluster
A couple of questions please:
What is the benefit of having more than one Mongrel/Rails instance on
the same machine, could one instance not serve as many requests as say
three instances?
Is Mongrel Cluster a Apache add-in (like mod_*) or a separately running
load balancer which runs on a separate port, I could not work it out
from the sample Apache config...

Mongrel & Mint (PHP related)
Hi, Does anyone have the Mint stats package setup with their Rails
application. I have uploaded Mint to the public folder, but when I try
and request domain.com/mint/index.php the page is served as a download
instead of being processed by mod_php. Im guessing this isn''t really a
Mongrel problem but what I actually need to do is prevent Apache
proxying certain requests to Mongrel.

bad URI(is not URI?): c:\boot.ini
Please note this message is not related to my previous one from
yesterday, this is on a different server (textdrive server).
I have only one mongrel application running but ''randomly'' it will go
down, the mongrel.log file shows:

[SEC] Mongrel Temporary Fix For cgi.rb 99% CPU DoS Attack
This is important so please read this message very carefully.
There is a DoS for Ruby''s cgi.rb that is easily exploitable. The attack involves sending a malformed multipart MIME body in an HTTP request. The full explanation of the attack as well as how to fix it RIGHT NOW is given below.
Most of the work was done by Jeremy Kemper and Jamis Buck. They did all the work of building the

Error on Windows and FreeBSD
First off Windows, because actually what I appear to be getting is a
Rails error which only occurs when I use Mongrel, using Webrick I do not
get this error.
I start Mongrel using:
mongrel_rails start
I have mongrel, win32-services and mongrel-service gems installed even
through Im not using mongrel as a service at the moment.
The whole application works apart from one action. The error I get

Mongrel spinning on read_multipart
On Zed''s suggestion, I caught two new spinning mongrels and sent a
SIGUSR2. The code appears to be stuck in read_multipart for both processes:

Spinning mongrels and SIGUSR1
First off: Our clusters are LVS balanced Apache 2.2.3 +
mod_proxy_balancer + gem mongrel 0.3.13.3 / mongrel_cluster 0.2 +
memcached / gem memcache_client + gem rails 1.1.6 on debian boxen, and a
pgcluster backend.
On 2 of our deployed clusters, we are getting the "spinning mongrel"
problem. As the clusters are very low volume right now, it takes days to
collect a spinner, making it

static file serving
Hi,
I''ve got 40 mongrels running across 4 machines with a hardware load
balancer as a proxy. The mongrels serve everything, even files.
How screwed am I if I have a 2MB file on my site? Say 40 people are
downloading that file. Are the mongrels completely locked up?

Managing requests for static content in WEBrick and Mongrel
All,
Is there a way to set things up so that requests for static files in
either WEBrick or Mongrel will just cause a regular HTTP request and not
cause the dynamic routing-based invocation to occur?
I had an issue where a request for a missing .js file was causing
another request to be registered, thus blowing away my flash data.
I tried to do this in my routing file, but I don''t

rails, passenger, and images
Just switched over to passenger for development and production for my
rails app. Liking it so far.
My problem is my image_links, stylesheet_tag_links, and
javascript_tag_links are all adding "http://localhost:3000 to the
generated links. I got around the stylesheet and js links by not using
the helpers.
I can access my all of my assets directly via http://dating.local/stylesheets/all.css,

MogileFS handler
Hello,
I''ve been using NFS for sharing files across a cluster of servers but
I''ve had a lot of problems with that. I''m planning to move to MogileFS
which seems to be more stable and more adapted to this usage (lots of
user uploaded files).
I wonder if someone has already worked on an integration of MogileFS
into Mongrel (and Rails app) for serving the files ? If not, I

Mongrel 0.3.13.4 Pre-Release -- QUERY_STRING Fixed
Hello Everyone,
I just posted another pre-release of Mongrel that fixes a bug which
caused Mongrel to claim it was getting parsing errors because the
QUERY_STRINGs were too long. In actuality it was shift in the parser
that made empty queries (/test?) become negative. This is fixed up now.
Here''s the full list of changes:
* It has a couple of fixes for win32, but I still have to

Introducing facebooker.yml
If you are using facebooker as a plugin, you can now have all your
configuration in one place, namely config/facebooker.yml. You can
create this file with rake facebooker:setup. It is also generated
when you install it as a plugin.
It has a similar setup to database.yml with sections for each
environment. You can also configure your ssh reverse tunnels.
If you are upgrading, make sure to

Moving page_cache_directory
Howdy. I''m working on a RoR CMS and need cached pages to all be in
public/cache rather than public [in order to set svn:ignore on all the files
properly]. I can get page_cache_directory set correctly and the pages are
cached in the right place but Mongrel isn''t serving them because it''s only
looking for them in public. During development I know I can set -r
public/cache

Mongrel HTTP Header Problem
Hi,
I''ve recently been trying to setup Mongrel behind Pound so that I can
do mutual SSL authentication. I''ve had a few problems with Pound
(documented at [1]), but now have it working correctly.
However, I think there is a problem with Mongrel and how it deals with
the headers Pound adds to the HTTP header block. One of the extra
headers Pound adds is

production-izing a popular site
Lets say you have a site that is serving, oh, around 100k unique
visitors a day (plain ole'' browser requests) - plus probably ~ 40k
uniques to feeds. Assume this site is 90% read like most of the web,
so the traffic looks like your typical news or portal site. There are
two web boxes behind a hardware load balancer, each doing apache 2.2.3
-> mongrel_proxy_balancer -> mongrel

URL issue localhost/mongrel vs remote-server/apache
Hi all
I have a small issue I ma trying to solve (at least to understand..)
I am testing an app on my remote_server (w Apache/Passenger) in a
sub_URI, without any problem (I tested also the same app, locally w
Apache too)
in my environment.rb , I have initialized
config.action_controller.relative_url_root = "/my_subURI"
config.action_controller.asset_host =

Adding Categories to the Depot example in the Agile Rails book
Hi ya, I want to add categories to the depot example in the Agile rails
book.
These are my thoughts:
Create a new table called categories with id, title, description, and
image fields.
Add a new field to the products table called category_id
Create a model called Category with "has_many :products"
Now I should have a one to many link between the products and categories
tables?

Two Mongrel''s Two Rails Applications
Hi, I have Mongrel up and running for one application (port 3000), but
when I start another Mongrel for a second application (port 4000) I can
access both sites locally (using curl) but not remotly via a browser.
If I stop the first applications Mongrel and start the second the second
one works. In other words I can only run one application at once...
I have both on different ports, it makes
