chmod + remote save denied = file wiped?
I have a SerNet Samba 4.0.8 AD DC running on CentOS 6.4 (newdc) replicating from a W2K3 DC (olddc). newdc also has a test share. I'm experiencing something strange whereby chmod and then an attempted file save causes a shared file to become zero bytes (despite the save not being blank, and also being denied): At olddc: 1) open \\newdc\testshare\yay.txt At newdc: $ ls -l total 8

Problem with netlogon\logon.bat not mapping all drives
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help me, I have searched for some reason but cannot find any. After migrating from a previous samba-3.0.10 (I think) PDC server to a newer samba-3.0.23c server on Centos5, I have the strange problem that my XP clients no longer map all the drives listed in the logon.bat during logon, however if I run logon.bat manually after I'm logged in, all

local copy microsoft/credentials directory profile redirection
hello, i've set up a domain controller to replace a production server. both servers use profile redirection for all user environment directories. my problem is that when logging onto the new domain and server, windows will create in the %userprofile% local directory an Application Directory containing Microsoft/Credentials/*SID*, although a copy exists on the server. this directory is used

Samba4: variables in profilePath
Hi, I have a domain with several Samba4 servers installed in different locations. I need to use roaming profile but the only way that I get them working is using fixed profile path. I need to use variables, because sometimes users move from one location to another. I've tried with: %LOGONSERVER%/profiles/user //%LOGONSERVER%/profiles/user %SERVERNAME%/profiles/user

GPO redirected folders reg path issue
We are not much off. But you have mixed "samba/window" and "windows/windows" settings. Samba/windows \\%logonserver%\home\%username%\desktop Windows/windows \\hostname.fqdn.tld\users\%username%\desktop Guess, which one i use. ;-) Now, do get where this is coming from. So use this (add CNAME for you member server ), Note, you MUST setup PTR records.

AD DC eventually not browsable without restart
I have a SerNet Samba 4.0.8 AD DC running on CentOS 6.4 (newdc) replicating from a W2K3 DC (olddc). When I first launch Samba using `sudo samba`, I can go to the Windows server and browse to \\newdc in Explorer, and I see mytestshare, netlogon, printers, sysvol, and "Printers and Faxes". After a while (I'm not sure how long precisely, but under 24 hours) I could not navigate

CUPS working but errors from Windows clients accessing printer
Hi, On CentOS 6.4 (newdc), I have CUPS 1.4.2-50.el6_4.5 installed, can access its web interface. There I set up our main shared printer, an OCE Imagistics cm2520, and successfully printed a test page. With SerNet Samba 4.0.9 on the same box configured every which example way I could find, I cannot seem to get it to the point where double-clicking the printer in Windows (W2K3, OLDDC) opens

PDC & file server on same machine?
How much of a resource hog is a PDC? My understanding is that authentication is done vs a BDC if available. I configured my new file server as the domain PDC because I figured it would already have to run samba. I have two other machines configured as BDCs to serve as logon servers. I'm looking for opinions on whether I'm asking for performance problems by making my file server the

samba 4.4
I'm trying to upgrade our old DC's from samba 4.2 to samba 4.4. Rather than upgrade in-place, I am creating new DCs and then joining them. This generally seems to work as expected, except outbound replication seems to fail. [root at newDC samba-4.4.4]# samba-tool drs replicate newDC oldDC CN=Configuration,DC=ad,DC=mydomain,DC=com -U Administrator Replicate from oldDC to newDC was

GPO redirected folders reg path issue
Hi all, I have an issue at multiple sites that has been plaguing me for a while. My goto setup for AD w/windows desktops is to employ roaming profiles with redirected folders and a few mapped drives; all via GPO. And that's pretty much it. 3 GPOs linked to the entire domain with authenticated users as security filter. The file servers are a domain member and serve both the file shares and

gpresult returns "ERROR: The RPC server is unavailable."
Hi, I have a CentOS 6.4 box running SerNet Samba 4.0.9 as an AD DC replicating from a W2k3 box. If I run "gpresult /s OLDDC /user MYDOM\Me" on a command prompt on OLDDC, I get a normal output, listing which GPOs are applied. If I run "gpresult /s NEWDC /user MYDOM\Me" in the same place, I get "ERROR: The RPC server is unavailable." This is after a fresh restart

mandatory profiles - again
Hello! Some days ago I posted a message about mandatory profiles, and got a very useful answer from John H Terpstra with reference to his Samba Guide. Suddenly logging on runs much faster.... However, I have still one more problem to solve. I have set up the win2000 client to delete the cached profile on exit. The "problem" is that the user profile remains on the server in

What is even weirder, if I look at the H: drive which is defined by samba
