Installing manpages
According to the Samba documentation, the manpages are supposed to be installed with Samba. Quote: docs/manpages: You don't need to worry about these yet; during the installation, the files will be installed so that you can use the man command to read them. But you can take a look in the directory to see which manpages are available. My problem: Samba4 on 64bit Fedora 17 will not

Can't create folders in .wine/drive_c/users/public/App Data/...
OK, so I don't know what's going on. (even with tinyproxy/firehol off the following occurs). Unless wine is run by root, when WoW is first loaded and trying to login, WoW creates a Cache folder and a bunch of folders under cache for login purposes. The Cache folder exists in: <wine profile dir>/drive_c/users/Public/Applicatoin data/Blizzard Entertainment/Battle.net. Now it can

How do we do this ? How do we set the permissions on the actual folders on the Hard Drives and how do we set

"Inherited Permissions" vs "Force/Create Mask"
I have written to this list several times. I purchased the Officia SAMBA 3 How-To and Reference Guide (and read much of it). But I can't get a good answer to my question. I'm trying to figure out the difference between "inherited permissions" and "force/create mask/directory", and other actions like "force user" and "force group" (it seems I

create mask vs security mask
Hello, I'm using samba 3.0.24 on ubuntu 7.04 I'm using the 2.6.20 cifs-driver on my linux-clients. samba has posix-cifs extensions turned on. I want to be able to use the cifs-shares as if they were local. locally I normaly use umask=022 for all files/directories that are created. So I figured I have to set the create mask = 644 and directory mask = 755. Now when I want to make a file

delivering mail to public mbox with permission 660?
I am migrating a couple old RH servers running sendmail and UW-IMAP to a new Ubuntu 10.04 servers running Postfix and Dovecot. I have everything working reasonably well except that the permissions of newly created mbox mail folders is always 600. I have reviewed the archives, google, and double checked everything is as suggested in the Dovecot Wiki / SharedMailboxes / Permissions. I am

Profiles directory permssions
So, trying to get profiles working. The GPO is there and functioning. However, the user isn't able to create the needed directory for *initial* setup of the profile. [It's possible if I hand-created the profile directory for the user, and granted them rights, it would work properly. But it is vastly easier to have the user create their own directory at first login. I'm sure that's

Values for Create Mask?
We're running Samba 3.0.4.0 on AIX 5.2 and I am using the create mask value in the smb.conf to try and set the default permissions but I can't seem to get the values right. I want the default permissions to be rwxrwx--- Setting the mask to 770 gets me rwxrw---- I've tried several options but can't seem to get the execute value on the group. If someone can either let me know

create and directory mask ignored for profiles?
On our old 3.6.x PDC profiles are created the way we want (mode 700/600). I am upgrading the hardware and putting OpenSUSE 13.1 with samba-4.1.11 on it. In testing I have found that no matter what I do, profile directories are created mode 770 and files mode 670. The profile share config: path = /local/samba/profiles # this dir is mode 1777, old and new profile acls = yes browseable = no

provisioning with vagrant-libvirt leaves .img file only readable by root
I'm using libvirt on Debian/stretch (testing) with vagrant and the vagrant-libvirt plugin. When I import a vagrant box (jessie64.box), the resulting file permssions let anyone in the "kvm" group read the img. But when I build upon that box, only root can read it: -rw------- 1 root root 20198785024 Sep 19 18:19 buildserver_default.img -rwxr--r-- 1 libvirt-qemu kvm

Multivariate Maximum Likelihood Estimation
Hi, I am trying to perform Maximum Likelihood estimation of a Multivariate model (2 independent variables + intercept) with autocorrelated errors of 1st order (ar(1)). Does R have a function for that? I could only find an univariate option (ar.mle function) and when writing my own I find that it is pretty memory-consuming (and sometimes wrong) so there must be a better way. Thanks, KB

Rsync / ssh high cpu load
Hi everybody, I am using Cygwin rsync/ssh to synchronize my files from my home computer to my server. I raised a question on the Cygwin list as well, but thought this list would be appropriate too. The issue is that the CPU on the sending side is fully allocated by rsync/ssh (both taking 50%) during a file transfer. This is the command I use: rsync -e ssh * <user>@<server>:/data
