vfs_fruit & resource forks on macOS
From version 4.10.6 onwards folder icons are not working anymore on macOS. I can see the "._Icon?? file written on disk but seems like Samba isn?t reading it back and presenting it to the client. Is there a change or new setting that is needed on more recent versions, or have I hit a bug? I noticed 4.10.6 had some work done regarding AppleDouble and resource forks. In the client log I?m

Spotlight & accented characters in share name
Hi Ralph, Someone has created this: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15379 Looks like the same issue. What?s a good way to fund this? Buy Samba+ and/or support from SerNet, make a donation through samba.org or something else? -Perttu > On 19. Aug 2024, at 16.21, Ralph Boehme <slow at samba.org> wrote: > > ?Interesting. Spotlight & accented characters in share name
Interesting. This will likely take a day or two to diagnose and fix. Hopefully someone comes around and funds this fix. Can you please file a bugreport to we can track this and more folks become aware of this? -slow On 7/9/24 11:40 AM, Perttu Aaltonen via samba wrote: > Hi, > > I finally found out why I?ve had trouble getting Spotlight searches > working well with the latest

Spotlight configuration trouble
Hi Louis, I used your excellent packages but also tried building from source. I?m trying to get Tracker working. Elasticsearch was simpler to get going but it doesn?t really suite the use case due to limitations in fscrawler. I actually created the mdssvc user but also tried directly under root once the dedicated user didn?t work. The problem might be somewhere in D-Bus configuration but I

Spotlight & accented characters in share name
Hi, I finally found out why I?ve had trouble getting Spotlight searches working well with the latest installation I?m working on. It looks like searches won?t work if there are any accented characters in the share name. In this case it is the ? character. Running mount in macOS shows it like this: //user at server.address/Share_with_the_O%CC%88_character on /Volumes/Share_with_the_?_character

Spotlight configuration trouble
I?m trying to setup Spotlight with Tracker (2.3 from Ubuntu repo) backend in Ubuntu 20.04 and Samba 4.12.7. I?ve followed the wiki closely but every time I try to search I get this in the logs: [2020/10/02 10:43:42.078242, 0] ../../source3/rpc_server/mdssvc/mdssvc_tracker.c:403(mds_tracker_search_start) mds_tracker_search_start: no connection to Tracker [2020/10/02 10:43:42.079897, 0]

Indexing smb Linux share from Mac
Hi, More information is needed. What?s in Samba logs? What?s in fscrawler logs? Are you able to see the indexed data with Kibana? I?d start with making sure fscrawler is able to add data to elasticsearch and that it?s visible and searchable with Kibana. If that works then on to Samba. -Perttu > On 1. Extended attributes not working on mac
I?m not sure if this is related, but there was a regression a while back in handling resource forks in folder icons. It was supposed to be fixed in 4.10.13 but I don?t think it quite works yet and I haven?t had the time to test it further yet. -Perttu > On 30 May 2020, at 21.00, Martin Steiner / 3MF GmbH via samba <samba at lists.samba.org> wrote: > > I changed the configuration

Spotlight with Elasticsearch
Hi, Is anyone using Spotlight with Elasticsearch in production and what kind of tweaking have you had to do? Certain search types seem to work out of the box, but others not. Perhaps fscrawler and Elasticsearch need some customization that the wiki doesn?t mention. There also seems to be a difference in using the main search box in the Finder window or the more granular options below, even if

Spotlight performance
When comparing to native macOS Spotlight searches, the Samba & elasticsearch combo is much slower, at least for me. Samba takes minutes to return a few hundred results, while native macOS returns thousands of results in a few seconds. This is remotely over a mobile connection, LAN is probably better. Is this due to the missing Spotlight RPC packet fragmentation support mentioned in the

Need to upgrade very old samba: 4.6 AD to current release
I did something very similar recently. Joined a new 4.17.6 Debian Bullseye DC to an old 4.1.9 domain running on Wheezy and transferred roles, then demoted the original old DC. I did it in a sandbox environment but everything seemed to go smoothly. I?ve yet to do it in a live environment but since it?s a VM I?m quite confident there are no hiccups. YMMV as my environment doesn't use GPOs for

BUG?: On Linux setTimeLimit() fails to propagate timeout error when it occurs (works on Windows)
setTimeLimit(elapsed=1) causes a timeout error whenever a call takes more than one second. For instance, this is how it works on Windows (R 3.3.1): > setTimeLimit(elapsed=1) > Sys.sleep(10); message("done") Error in Sys.sleep(10) : reached elapsed time limit Also, the error propagates immediately and causes an interrupt after ~1 second; > system.time({ Sys.sleep(10);
