(D)DNS Updates with GNU/Linux clients in a samba 4 AD environment (BIND_DLZ)
Hi !
I bounce on the Mr Sloop's post ([Samba] DDNS / DHCPd && Internal DNS or
BIND_DLZ) to ask what's the easiest way to allow Linux clients to update
themself their DNS record in the Samba4 AD server (with BIND_DLZ Dns
server).
It works well with windows clients, but with Linux clients joined to the
domain, with a valid Kerberos ticket, the client receive a error

how to allow ISC dhcpd to add/update entries to bind9 with bind_dlz (samba4)
Hello all,
I have set up a samba4 server with bind9 and the bind_dlz module.
Everything is working as it should but now I need to allow the dhcp
server to add entries to the forwarding zone. Has anybody implemented
such a configuration ? Can this be done with the kerberos DNS dynamic
update configuration.
I want to achieve the following:
1) allow non-Windows machines (printers, ILO ...) to be

Internal DNS, update of reverse zone fails
Dear list,
one more problem.
I've setup my host running a samba addc controller. Samba version is
samba-4.11.6-r2. I've joined two win10 clients to my domain. One client
has a static ip, the other one was configured to ask my dhcpd-daemon for
an ip. Following the book from stefan kania, I modified my dhcpd.conf to
execute some scripts I've found on ArchWiki to add my

Samba AD DNS problem
Hello there.
I have a setup with Samba AD and a Named backend.
Everything has been working fine, until a few days ago, I cannot start the DNS snap-in from windows. I get a dialog box saying
"Access was denied. Would you like to add it anyway?"
If I enable level 3 debugging in the samba.conf, I get the following:

debugging bind9_DLZ
On wiki page
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/BIND9_DLZ_DNS_Back_End#Reconfiguring_the_BIND9_DLZ_Back_End
in the "Debugging the Bind Module" the section discusses the location
for the log file.
The /etc/named.log says "bash: bind: -g: cannot read: No such file or
directory" . . . I am puzzled, what "file or directory" is being
referenced?

I am planning up upgrading my AD/DC from Samba version 4.8.2 to the most recent
version in my Slackware distro which is currently 4.15.13.
In previous threads in this maillist I was advised that the best route to
achieve this was to add a 2nd domain controller, then promote that one and
demote the original. I'm in the process of setting up a 2nd DC to that end.
I thought I ask questions as I

Configure DHCP to update DNS records with BIND9
Hello everyone,
I have configured my Samba as AD with BIND9_DLZ as backend and trying to

DDNS / DHCPd && Internal DNS or BIND_DLZ
So, I don't see much on the Wiki [actually nothing] and the relevant
threads on the issue are few.
So, let me try to outline what appears to be the current state of
things and if I'm wrong, please correct me.
Running DHCPd on the Samba 4 server works fine.
Doing DDNS [dynamic DNS] updates can work with the BIND9_DLZ setup,
but not the internal DNS setup.
However, if the connecting Samba

DNS (bind_dlz) forwarding not working

- Internal DNS that responds to our services (site, moodle, etc) -
ns.myinstitution.edu (registered in registro.br)
- Samba DNS answering for samba stuff - addc.myinstitution.edu
Maybe it's better to use SAMBA_INTERNAL instead of BIND_DLZ?
