samba 4.x slow ...
Hi, we are running samba 4.4 on two machines as file servers. Both are running a GFS (stornext). The storage is attached using 8G HBA. You can get up to 800MB/s local speed. We are exporting the shares using 2x1GB and 2x10G. However the clients are only getting 40-50MB/s. With samba3 I think we had up to 80-90MB/s. Using a 100MB/s link for the client we see 12-13MB/s (wire speed). Using

samba4 auth (ldap) starnge problem
Hi, we have updated our samba4 AD a few weeks ago from 4.4.latest -> 4.5.latest using the sernet packages. We are using open-xchange(OX) as web-mail. The ox is using ldap to authenticate the users. It is still working, but only for users created BEFORE we did the update. All new users can not login! From the log file we only get an:     ERROR: No user found with

samba AD: using passwd on linux to change PW
Hi, a short question about changing passwords. Our linux login server is using winbind for authentication. Everything is working well, but changing the password for a user does not work. We see the following error: passwd Changing password for USER (current) NT password: passwd: Authentication token manipulation error passwd: password unchanged /var/log/auth.log pam_winbind(sshd:auth):

Perfect ! You are right. objectClass: posixAccount was missing and caused the problems. Thanks a lot! Migration samba3 -> samba4
Hi, we are still using a setup with openldap + samba3. On the unix systems we are using ldap for authentication, for all windows clients samba is used. When we migrate to samba4 what will happen to the unix clients ? Can they ask the samba4 PDC ? For an update . are there other Howto's as the https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/samba-tool/domain/classicupgrade/HOWTO just to get some

windos 10 <-> samba file server -> problems
Hi, we have a strange problem with a win 10 system. The windows system is using network shares exported from a linux system running samba 4.8. ~250 people are using the shares without any problem. This server is running automatically some mysql queries. The results of the queries are written to a file on the share. 1 or 2 times (from 10) this will fail. We only get an error like "file not

ODP: Re: freeradius + NTLM + samba AD 4.5.x
Hi, thank you very much for testing everything out. Great work! One question: passchange - which application are working with passchange on radius ? In the moment every user with an expired password is NOT able to use services using radius for authentication (WLAN,VPN). Is there any documentation available ? remote password change, if password is expired
Hi, we have a couple of users which "forget" to change the passwords even if they get an reminder. Normally we tell them to use a windows machine, where you can change your password if it's expired. But how can a remote user change his password if it's expired ? Is there any secure solution for this  ? -- Bye, Peer

freeradius + NTLM + samba AD 4.5.x
Hi, we have updated our samba AD domain from 4.4.x to 4.5.x. The release notes for 4.5.0 included  "NTLMv1 authentication disabled by default". So we had to enable it to get our radius (freeradius) server working (for 802.1x). What would be the best way to change the freeradius configuration in such a way, that we can disable NTLMv1 again. The radius server is used for WLAN

Samba as printserver; problems with settings
Hi, we are using cups 1.1.15,samba 2.2.5 under suse8.0 for printing. Everything works well (driver download), but we have some problems with the settings for the printers. Under NT 4.0 it is not possible to set "document defaults" all values can not be changed (only in the printing dialog). Also everything is lost, when you log off. What can we do to fix it ? The problem is, that

Big problem with file permission !!
Hi, we are running samba 2.2.5 (HP 1.0.9) on our HPUX file server. Well it is running without any problems, but now a user pointed out which looks like a big problem for me: We have setup a lot of shares for projects. As an example one share looks like this [AG_Technik] comment = Datenbereich der Technik path = /mnt/Local/Groups/AG_Technik valid users =

just to verify basic facts: Did you cross check vie network sniff, on which SMB protocol versions Server + Win 7 clients agree ? Or did you pin down via registry ? AFAIK only starting with win 8 or win 10 clients you could ask with powershell, which protocol version is in use. Did you also cross check samba logs for a name resolution issue ( windows names, not DNS) if one of your boxes is an

Update SAMBA 3.x PDC
Hi, we are currently planing to update our samba 3.3.X pdc. When we install new RPM's (3.6.7 or so) - is it possible to go back, if something is not working as expected ? All user account information are stored in our LDAP. So would it be enough to stop everything at the PDC and backup everything under /var/lib/samba ? Or will be the user accounts (ldap) be updated, too ? -- Bye,
