Directly replace smb.
Hi,all, I have a redhat linux of 2.6.24 kernel(x86_64), which smb is 3.0, I want to upgrade it, but the system doesn't have gcc development and no rpm, that means I can't upgrade the smb on this machine. So I compile the new samba on other machine and copy necessary files and replace them on my target machine and checked: smbd -V nmbd -V winbind -V are all the right version, but

Howto switch from distribution to self compiled?
Hi, I want to switch from an old samba 3.6 of a Linux distribution, to a new and self compiled samba, which is in different directories (usr/local/samba). Which files do I need to copy from the old place to the new? Which ones are only temporary files, and can be discarded? This is from the output of "smbd -b" old: SBINDIR: /usr/sbin BINDIR: /usr/bin SWATDIR:

what happened to smbclient?
I noticed lots of smbclient options are missing in Samba 3.0.14a when compared to 3.0.13 - notably, all user/authentication options - so I can't connect now as a specified user anymore. Is it just my build, or is it "official"? Samba 3.0.14a: # smbclient --usage Usage: [-?] [-?|--help] [--usage] [-R|--name-resolve NAME-RESOLVE-ORDER] [-M|--message HOST] [-I|--ip-address IP]

Corrupted idmap...
Rowland, no domain user can authenticate on any system and running sysvolreset followed by sysvolcheck results in a crash. If the sysvol permissions are correct, sysvolcheck does not crash. If I attempt to join a NAS or workstation to the domain I get NT_STATUS_INVALID_SID. Researching these symptoms turns up a thread about a corrupt idmap.ldb where a group SID and user SID may be the same or

getenv does not return any AD DOMAIN users or groups - ?nsswitch is not setup for Samba?
The problem is that getenv does not return any AD domain users or groups. From much research this seems to be because nsswitch is not setup for Samba. I would really appreciate some assistance as I think this is my last hurdle for actually being able to use this test file server. Ubuntu server 18.04 - Samba installed and configured (almost) Kerberos functioning. wbinfo --ping-dc successfully

Corrupted idmap...
I started getting NT_STATUS_INVALID at a client location recently and now everything has stopped working. Upon a day of searching and testing, I realized that my idmap.ldb is likely corrupt. How can I recover from this, shy of creating a new domain from scratch? The NAS devices no longer authenticate users so files are inaccessible, computers cannot access the sysvol, and sysvolreset/sysvolcheck

smbclient: preoblems with samba 4.3.x
Hallo, "smbclient" doesn't work with the slackware packages samba-4.3.1 and 4.3.2, it has worked with 4.2.1 and older versions. smbclient answers with "segmentation fault", on two testing machines (where 4.2.1 has worked well). The slackware packets are compiled with ./configure \ --enable-fhs \ --prefix=/usr \ --libdir=/usr/lib${LIBDIRSUFFIX} \

makefile and path questions
Hi! This morning, I found a system that was still running an ancient samba. I immediately upgraded it to samba 1.9.18p1 and had the opportunity to fiddle with the make file after not doing this for a couple of months. The default makefile sorts the files like this: BINDIR (/usr/local/samba/bin) smbpasswd smbrun smbclient testparm testprns smbrun smbstatus smbpasswd
