backup-script/backup_samba4
Hi! i am testing Louis van Belle backup script. it works quite well. Thank you for sharing this! https://github.com/thctlo/samba4/blob/master/backup-script/backup_samba4 but i think there is an error in the KEEP_DAYS code as the string '\-$KEEP_DAY1\-|\-$KEEP_DAY2-' is not interpolated so the egrep does exclude anything from rm call. So no files older than $DAYS are kept... # Remove

Hi Bob,   Ah, now I see the the core of this problem.   This is the main problem.   You smbd –b output Paths:    SBINDIR: /usr/local/samba/sbin    BINDIR: /usr/local/samba/bin    CONFIGFILE: /usr/local/samba/etc/smb.conf             <<<<<<<<<<    LOGFILEBASE: /usr/local/samba/var    LMHOSTSFILE: /usr/local/samba/etc/lmhosts    LIBDIR: /usr/local/samba/lib

adding Windows client reverse dns entries
Once again, reading here and there and I am confused. I thought the W clients (both W7 and W10) reverse dns PTR records where added by the ADDC automatically. This mornings testing (nslookup of client IP addresses) is not finding clients via their IP addresses. (Forward lookups via hostname work fine.) Do we (users of samba4) need to add each W client to our dns servers? (Grated this would

Provision new domain keeping users and passwords
I was able to do this by exporting and importing users (including passwords) with the pdbedit samba utility. Look at this: Http://serverfault.com/questions/675938/migrate-samba-users-to-new-server Maybe you need to change the passdb backend 2017-03-28 2:49 GMT-03:00 Mike Lykov via samba <samba at lists.samba.org>: > 27.03.2017 22:48, Santiago Londoño Mejía via samba пишет: >

Hai, Since your getting. finddcs: No matching server found > ERROR: Invalid IP address '3(NXDOMAIN)'! There is something wrong in the base of you setup. Check all DC's for ipnumbers (A) and PTR records. Dont forget to create the reverse zone yourself. https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_Troubleshooting

Ok just to verify. DC name= ad41.dc.samges.ru dnsdomain= dc.samges.ru Kerberos domain ?? Im guessing you kerberos to dnsdomain mapping is wrong. Can you post the /etc/hosts /etc/resolv.conf /etc/krb5.conf And, can you post this line u used for provisioning? Samba on Debian 8
Just a general question ahead: I have various issues with Samba-4.2.10 on Debian 8.6 (in combination with NT4-based domain and Win10pro-clients). I assume later samba-releases would help around these issues so I wonder if there are any more recent packages available anywhere. I would like to avoid compiling samba on my own, not because I am not able to do that but in terms of lower maintenance

remove missing 2nd DC
try removing it with samba tool first. how is on the wiki. (remove dead server) something like that. removing is an option but should be only the last option. and make sure you have good backups of the samba databases. double check it! make backups when samba is down.
