Samba4/Windows DNS replication and administration issue
Hi all,
I am having trouble with DNS replication between a Linux/Samba 4.0.9 box and Windows Server 2012 domain controller, as well as administering the Linux DNS from the Windows DNS Manager snap-in.
First a little background. I am trying to integrate a Samba 4.0.9 server as a domain controller in an existing Windows Active Directory domain. The domain and forest are at Windows 2008R2

Oplock break failed on sysvol share
Hi team!
Samba 4.1.11 on Debian Wheezy here, configured as a DC. I recently started
noticing long startup times for the Windows clients, whenever multiple
clients are started at the same time. For example, at 8:00 AM (when around
30 PCs get started simoultaneously, I get this in smbd.log:

Hi,
I am running 2DCs and 1 member server. All are running samba 4.1.2
The member server hosts the file for access and it is full of log like:

smbd/oplock.c:oplock_timeout_handler(375) after samba upgrade
I recently upgraded from samba 3.0.10-1.fc3 to 3.0.21b-2 running on FC5.
Today was the first day of a typing class which uses the network version
of Mavis Beacon Typing which depends on file sharing.
The users are hanging and then getting an error message during logging
into the product. In /var/log/message, I can see the following message
for each user similar to:

windows sysvol share
Hello,
I have manually mounted the SYSVOL share, sync it with samba and run
samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset.
But I'm not sure if all windows policies are acceptable by samba because of

windows sysvol share
Of course, the sysvol is located on a windows controller from the forest.
mount -t cifs -o username=domain_admin_user
//windowsDC.myDomain.local/SYSVOL /mnt/smb/sysvol
and copied the files with -R --preserve to
/usr/local/samba/var/locks/sysvol/
Below logs are provided from /usr/local/samba/var/log.smbd file.

oplock problem samba4
Hi,
?
I have some issues regarding oplocks on a samba DC (4.1.2). The server has a pretty much default configuration.
I am using a multiuser database file on a samba share. With oplocks enabled I get a lot of errors in the logging like ?../source3/smbd/oplock.c:333(oplock_timeout_handler) Oplock break failed for file <filename> -- replying anyway?

Hello!
Our users created very large excel file - about 60 Mb, then when they
want to open it from samba share, they can't.
I see in log:

Oplock break failed for file file.xls -- replying anyway
Could you tell me what can I do to solve this problem?
btw, there are no problems in network, looks like file is too large and

samba4 / Lots of "Oplock break failed for file" errors
On samba4 (git, from 5/2/13 version 5f82641553) I see a number of
errors in the smbd log, like:

corrupt files... oplocks?
Suddenly in the past week we have been having users who share excel
files via our Samba complain that the file has become corrupt, and also
some database files (Orcad .tdb database files). Fortunately there has
in each instance been a good copy in the .recycler... so far.
I came across some docs and threads in the net about oplocks. I did find
an error in the samba log:

Samba kills network.
When i try to swap files between disks on my server using samba i get
errors: then windows reports "The specified network name is no longer
available". Sometimes the copies are fine other times files just wont
copy. Hardware checks out fine. Ive even replaced the network cable
between server and switch thinking that might be causing the problem.
Ive included a ethereal cap of the

Samba 4.1.6 huge security flaw
Hi all,
I've been running Samba 4.1.6 in production for 2 weeks now and it's been
great. However I noticed a huge security flaw today that I hit only once. I
access Samba4 shares over the VPN that is irrelevant since the security
access is user-based, not IP based. What happens right after the connection,
Windows tries to read the shares and some are empty, but they are not
supposed to

First the clients get connection problems, timing out to access the shares
and then some minutes later the whole Server freeze, i can't even logon on
the console. Only a cold reset is possible.
I convert all files from latin-1 to a UTF-8 and then from UTF-8 to

RES: OpenSSH with slow login
I gueess it is not a DNS problem, because either using name or IP, I have
always the problem.
I guess the problem is that I am using ssh on inetd.conf (sshd -i), so It
has to generate a key each time I start a session. What do you think ?

What would you tell the CIO in an "ABCs of Email" overview?
One of the key points that came up when I researched and wrote the
"Five Things CIOs Should Know about Fighting Spam" article (http://
www.cio.com/article/28830) was that they should know the basics of
how email works. Otherwise, said plenty of techies, the CIO won't
have the first idea of what the email admin is complaining about.
So I'm going to do my part. I'm
