Computer accounts belonging to groups, using winbind on file server
Thank you Rowland, I like your thinking - made sense to me. I had already allocated a GID to Domain Computers: [root at fileserver ~]# getent group Domain\ Computers domain computers:x:12345: however I just now tried adding a uidNumber attribute to one of my computer objects using ADSIEdit and hey presto, that computer now appears in 'getent passwd'! I wonder if there is some fix that

The first two will allow me to access the shares but the last fully qualified domain name results in "\\lampadas.stjamesthegreat.org\WPKG is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this

masquerade and mac problem
Hello guys I don''t know if this thing has been posted before (if it was , please forgive me). I have 7 computers at home and I want all of them to have access to the internet. In order to do that , I set up a linux router (2 network cards) as a usual router (eth0 : 82.77.69.75 - internet connection ; eth1 : 192.168.10.1 - local network) . The other computers have ips ranging from

DM: samba 4.5 -> 4.8, guest access and machine account access troubles.
I've just upgraded my DM from samba 4.5 to 4.8, using luois repos (also, debian jessie -> stretch). I'm experimenting some troubles on some shares, seems that both guest access and 'machine account' access does not work. The share is rather simple: [wpkg] browseable = No comment = WPKG Automated Software Deploying System force create mode = 0664 force directory mode =

How to configure Winbind to use uidNumber and gidNumber
Thank you for this quick answer Louis. On DC: On DC I had to add one line to have winbind retrieving uidNumber AD field rather than having Winbind chosing some random UID for my users. This line is: idmap_ldb:use rfc2307 = yes as explained in https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_RFC2307_in_AD That's a start. Unfortunately winbind is still giving my users GID number set to 100,

Can't get idmap connected to AD unix attribs
Hi, I'm trying to get an Ubuntu 12.04 system's Samba (3.6.3) and Winbind to map userids and groups to the unix attributes in an AD 2008 server. I can see that when I perform an ldapsearch, I'm able to read the attributes, and for one of my accounts, the id should be 1001. However, when I run 'wbinfo -i <username>', I get back something like 920. At one point, I was
