Migrating samba AD DC from 4.1.0 to 4.7.0 and dns backend change
Hi, We are in the process of migrating our samba AD (4.1.0pre1-GIT-6be458d) to the latest 4.7.0 release. In the process we want to switch from the BIND_DLZ to the internal dns server. I have done some experiments in our test environment and everything seems to work ok, but I'm not sure how to handle the dns backend change. Is it just the case of running samba_upgradedns

samba-tool gpo admxload loads into the wrong server
Hi! I had a samba 4.10.8 (DC1) AD DC which was holding all the FSMO roles and a samba 4.18.9 (DC2) AD DC with one way sysvol replication using rsync from DC1 to DC2. Since I'm trying to get the admx files for group policy editor into de DC I succesfully transfered the FSMO roles from DC1 to DC2 with "samba-tool fsmo transfer role=all -U SAMDOM\\Administrator" which I can confirm

Our success story with samba4
Hi all, This message is a testament to the great work samba team has done, but its also an encouragement to those of you that still not sure if samba4 will work in your environment. This semester we have moved from samba 3.0.X DC to samba4 DC for students, and things are working great The move was predominantly driven by switching from Windows XP to Windows 7 desktop platform (but also by a

How to delete a corrupt record from internal DNS
I accidentally created a SRV record with a false port. I then updated the port but was afraid of any consequences. So I deleted that record again and wanted to re-create it. But now I can't: "The record already exists." Observations: 1) I can't see it in the RSAT DNS gui, so I can't delete it there. 2) I also can't delete it via samba-tool (although I could delete

samba-tool gpo admxload loads into the wrong server
Hi! Thank you botho for your answers! I ran into some problems with the FSMO migration caused by the "kdc default domain supported enctypes" and "kdc supported enctypes" so after correcting that and verifying that DC2 was working again I shut down DC1 just to make sure that the domain was working correctly again. During this downtime I tried installing the admx templates again

unable to join to a Samba4 domain
I'm trying to join a Windows 2008 to a Samba4 domain. I'm able to ping Samba4 or browse its network shares. Unfortunately, I can't join Windows 2008 to this Samba4 domain - I'm not even asked for Administrator password. Windows 2008 errors with the below message, which roughly translates to: DSN-query for domain "samba4.my.domain" was successful. The query was for
