Loading shared RPC modules failed
I am testing Samba 4.5.0rc2 on a Solaris 10 i386 box. log.smbd contains
a new message/error that does not show up on Samba 4.4.5. The error is:
[2016/08/26 11:45:54.886237, 0]
../source3/rpc_server/rpc_service_setup.c:539(dcesrv_ep_setup)
dcesrv_ep_setup: Loading shared RPC modules failed
Dispite that, Samba 4.5.0rc2 seems to work correctly. Is this a problem
or not?

Lots of RPC-related compile errors (conflicting types, too many arguments, ...) trying to update Samba from 3.5 to 4.6
Hello Samba experts,
due to the "SambaCry" issue (CVE-2017-7494), I am trying to update the
Samba server installation on my Thecus NAS (dating back to 2011) from
version 3.5.16 to the current 4.6.4.
So far, I have successfully
* created a cross-compiling toolchain for the NAS
(i686-nptl-linux-gnu) based on gcc-5.2
* compiled Python and Samba library dependencies for my

In case anyone's interested, I've posted the rpm builds of samba 4.8.11
that I'm using on RHEL7.6. (I run these in VMs, serving as AD DCs for my
SOHO). Comments most welcomed.

Debian Wheezy member server from backports to self compile
Hello,
I'm unable to update my Samba from 4.1.17 to 4.4.2. I'm looking to
build from tar instead. From what I gather the following should be the
steps taken.
./configure --without-ad-dc -- sbindir= /usr/sbin
--sysconfdir=/etc/samba/ --/usr/share/man/
make
make install
Am I missing something else? Thanks.

Howto switch from distribution to self compiled?
Hi,
I want to switch from an old samba 3.6 of a Linux distribution, to a new
and self compiled samba, which is in different directories
(usr/local/samba).
Which files do I need to copy from the old place to the new?
Which ones are only temporary files, and can be discarded?
This is from the output of "smbd -b"

BINDIR: /usr/bin

2nd try: Lots of RPC-related compile errors (conflicting types, too many arguments, ...) trying to update Samba from 3.5 to 4.6
Hello again, Samba experts,
sorry for being such a pain in your necks, but I really need to get a
recent Samba version to compile, and it looks like I definitely need
your help with this.
In the meantime, I have found that the huge number of "conflicting
types" errors for rpc_*_init(...) is due to the fact that the Samba
4.6.4 codebase seems to have for all RPC modules:

Shorewall support for 2.6 test kernels
Shorewall (as of 1.4.5) currently doesn''t work "out-of-the-box" with the
recently released 2.6.0-test1 kernel. Fortunately, the problems are
trivial and easy to fix. The check for OS version only checks for 2.4*
and 2.5*, 2.6* obviously needs to be added to this. The next part is with
loading the modules. Currently, loadmodule checks for
$MODULESDIR/$module.o or

setproctitle Errors
Hi List
I've spun up a fresh Debian 8 VM to test out the upgrade steps for a Debian
samba 4.1.17 package deployment to a compiled samba 4.2.5. All seem s to
work fine (apt-get remove samba first, followed by configure/make/install),
but I get the following errors in my samba.log:
samba: setproctitle not initialized, please either call setproctitle_init()
or link against libbsd-ctor

Directly replace smb.
Hi,all,
I have a redhat linux of 2.6.24 kernel(x86_64), which smb is 3.0, I
want to upgrade it, but the system doesn't have gcc development and no
rpm, that means I can't upgrade the smb on this machine. So I compile the
new samba on other machine and copy necessary files and replace them on
my target machine and checked:
smbd -V
nmbd -V
winbind -V
are all the right version, but

4.2.1 ./configure --sbindir & --bindir settings is different from binary?
Hi,
I'm getting further in building Samba 4.2.1 . It's apparently not as simple
as sudo ./configure && make && make install.
At the moment it looks like make is ignoring some directory settings during
configuration.
I've run ./configure as follows:
sudo ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var
--with-piddir=/var/run/samba

[PATCH FOR DISCUSSION ONLY] Rewrite libguestfs-supermin-helper in C.
This needs loads more testing before we include it. However it's in
good shape for testing and review.
