Configuration of smb.conf for Active Directory authentication
I've completed the configuration specified, and the command 'wbinfo -g' provides a list of the groups available and 'wbinfo -u' provides a list of all the users on the system, but I cannot access the shares; When I navigate a file explorer to \\ip.ad.dre.ss I am presented with a login screen, which I cannot log into with my ID; 'The user name or password is incorrect'

Configuration of smb.conf for Active Directory authentication
I've been working through a guide documenting how to do this at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member and am presently deciphering what needs I have in my winbind configuration.
In doing so, I've come across the 'passdb backend = ldapsam' option and am curious if I can use this, and if it is wise, identifying that key exchange is complex and a

Configuring Samba as a file server to use AD authentication
Fair point on Ubuntu. Though, there is no value added by mentioning that as I am already seeking help here. :-)
What I was searching for was 'how to start winbindd' which doesn't provide any valuable excerpts beyond that.
Upon rebooting the machine winbindd is not operating all the same however, so I am puzzled why this is an issue for me.

Samba 4.8.4 + BIND 9.9.4 - possibility of nonsecure DNS updates
Hello everyone.
In our company we use Samba 4 for about 3 years (classic upgraded from
Samba 3.5 + LDAP to Sernet Samba 4.2). We used CentOS 6 for domain
controllers and with Bind bundled in this distro was impossible to use
dynamic DNS updates. And because I don't like using compiled SW on
production servers, we used Samba internal DNS, which worked well
(dynamic updates).
With one non

Configuring Samba as a file server to use AD authentication
Thanks for the information,
I am unclear how to implement the winbind 'rid' backend. I've identified that winbindd is not operating on my demo server (fresh installation of Ubuntu 16), and am looking for some assistance if possible.
1] 'apt-get install winbind' informs me that the package is already installed (v4.3.9), yet it is not operating;
2] Lsof -Pnl +M -i4 provides:

I am attempting to install Samba as a file server within an Active Directory domain to use the AD server for group authentication.
I have worked through various guides, but all leave me unable to authenticate into the samba shares using my organizations existing user groups in Active Directory.

dnsupdate_nameupdate_done - Failed DNS update
Thanks Rowland, I tried that just now, but as soon as I restarted samba,
the error occurred again a few seconds afterwards. The good news, I
suppose, is that it's easy to reproduce - each time I restart samba I get
the error :) But, it wasn't helped by adding "allow dns updates =
nonsecure" to smb.conf on one of my DCs.
I wonder if there is some error being flagged by the
