Multi tenancy and/or Hosted AD like solution
Hi, I've been doing some research and testing into implementing SAMBA 4 as a AD/DC role for offering "AD as a service" to various small companies, I've been testing SAMBA out in various different configurations and wondering if SAMBA in AD/DC role if it's possible to segment in such a way some requirements: - Windows 10 support, e.g SMB3 - AD tree segmentation so that one

Best solution for remote sites
Hi, I was wondering if there was a possibility for remote sites to avoid having a "local" domain controller (Samba 4 AD DC) and still provide share access while WAN link is down. Something like the Windows credential cache on workstation. Regards

Roaming Profiles under Linux clients
Hi, As I configured the Roaming profiles under linux, it more or less generate an abnormal operation (in less than 2 mins) if I add/copy some files to the home directory. But for Windows XP and Windows 7 is running smoothly and it generates folders at the Samba4 server location with corresponding users. e.g. Administrator (for XP), and Administrator.V2 (for Win7/2008) based on my observations. Samba4 on Ubuntu server
New to linux and new to Samba so any direction in troubleshooting would be helpful. Here is what I have so far. Within a half an hour of a reboot of the server my cpu reaches high numbers and becomes slow to respond on all actions. With my limited understanding I have used vmstat to observe the system. I noticed is that the numbers of forks grows from 1-2k to 43k within 30 minutes after reboot. I

Signed Dynamic DNS Updates with Internal DNS [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
UNCLASSIFIED I just installed SAMBA 4 as the PDC on a new standalone Windows network (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO#Samba_AD_management). Everything appears to be working correctly except for signed dynamic updates. Non-secure updates work fine. A, AAAA and PTR records are added to DNS when a PC joins the domain or I issue ipconfig /registerdns. Using wireshark, I see the

SAMBA failing to start after upgrade
The upgrade shouldn't have touched the Samba database, just the binaries etc, so check the smb.conf file and recreate it if you cannot find it, or if it is incorrect. The smb.conf still exists [global] workgroup = IUMNET realm = IUMNET.EDU.NA netbios name = IUMDCDP01 server role = active directory domain controller dns forwarder = 172.16.10.254

UNICAST cross-subnet browsing, Port 445 vs. 139, and Win2k
I have been having a heck of a time getting cross subnet browsing to work properly. After MANY hours hunting through source and debug logs, I have FINALLY found the source of my browsing issues. My Samba nmdb properly becomes the LMB for my segment on a WAN. I VPN to my servers at the home office and Samba attempts to sync with the DMB. nmbd properly locates the DMB via WINS over the

Multi tenancy and/or Hosted AD like solution
Thanks Andrew, I've a few ideas on the go with a client atm, will need to scrap out some of the data before sharing, But like you said stateless-ness is the way i'm trying to go here. We have a central backend that we hope can build/re-provision samba in a container on a per tenant bases. However migrating and updating SAMBA binary with a "state volume" is something still an

4.0 stopped working after updating xubuntu 13.04
Hi I got some strange issues on my samba4.0.1 install yesterday. It happened a while after updating my xubuntu server 13.04 not 13.10. Everything seems to be working fine except shares. Kerberos authentication seem to function properly, also DNS works fine but shares seem semi-broken. I can't mount any shares on my Windows box, including netlogon, profiles. I have one share that is
