I'm running all services: smbd, nmbd and winbind It's hard to run the file server as a domain member. When was a file server with DC was much more easy.

File Server member DC ACL permissions
I will choose to use the winbind. Based on the link that Rowland said: https://wiki.samba.org /index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member I followed the steps as described in the tutorial. I created symlinks. In the main DC I added this line in smb.conf: idmap_ldb: use RFC2307 = yes Changed /etc/nsswitch.conf passwd: files winbind shadow: files group: files winbind hosts:

File Server member DC ACL permissions
Greetings, Previously I had set up a file server with DC on the same machine. As recommendations, created another machine to be the file server. I made the settings as far as I could do, but I can not give permissions on shared folders. Must give permissions on shared folders for groups and users of the domain. I'm using Samba 4.4.5 in DC's and also the file server. I joined the file

Using Winbindd in nsswitch.conf
Hello, all-- I've a question regarding using WINS for resolving names while on the unix box. As I understand it, you're supposed to add something to the /etc/nsswitch.conf file, but it's not clear to me whether it's supposed to be 'wins', 'winbind', or 'winbindd' as in the following example: hosts: files wins nisplus nis dns hosts: files winbind

Winbind/nsswitch issue on Solaris 9 (Sparc)
Hi all I need to set up Samba on Solaris 9 (Sparc) as a Windows Domain Member. I took the precompiled 64-bit Package (samba-2.2.8a-1-sol8-suncc-64bit.pkg) from samba.org, which comes with pam-winbind libraries, and it installed fine. I ran a test before with Samba 2.2.8 on Solaris 8 (Intel), but there I compiled myself with ./configure --with-winbind --with-pam --with-quotas

NT_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR
Dear Rowland Strange thing is that I do not receive notification on my email about your answers. Here we run an internal DNS. Samba was configured with Bind 9 as secondary DNS. When I put in domain.local settings, it is because we omit the company name. But the name of my domain ends with .local. I disabled Avahi daemon. When I try to run the command you quoted: smbclient -k -L

dovecot-1.0_rc7 crashes (Login process died too early) with repeated deletes from thunderbird
I can consistently reproduce a crash in dovecot: Select 20 or more messages and copy them to a test folder. Go into that test folder and SHIFT-DEL the messages rapidly (holding down SHIFT-DEL works best) Just rapidly DELing them (even holding down DEL) doesn't do it (unless it's the Trash folder) I'm using the following namespace (in case that's relevant) namespace private {

Winbind trouble. Wbinfo see's users, "getent passwd" doesn't
I'm trying to set up a new fileshare, to replace an aging NT4 machine we've been using for far too long. I'd like to run Linux (RedHat 7.3) on the machine. Basically, I'm trying to create a fileshare "files" that people can transparently log in to from NT4 and Windows 2000 workstations. My boss has approved the use of Linux for the server, but only if I can make it
