slow speeds with Windows 10
Hai, My advice would be get a cable tester. Or see if you can loan some cable to test, with what your saying im almost sure you have a bad cable/connector/ethernet port somewhere. And check if you synoligy supports gigabit networks and put in a gigabit swich. Then see if you wifi is still faster then you ethernet. If you model is a 1xx, what happens when you disable https? DSM version is?

samba 4.x slow ...
just to verify basic facts: Did you cross check vie network sniff, on which SMB protocol versions Server + Win 7 clients agree ? Or did you pin down via registry ? AFAIK only starting with win 8 or win 10 clients you could ask with powershell, which protocol version is in use. Did you also cross check samba logs for a name resolution issue ( windows names, not DNS) if one of your boxes is an

connection speeds between nodes
Hi All, I've been asked to setup a 3d renderfarm at our office , at the start it will contain about 8 nodes but it should be build at growth. now the setup i had in mind is as following: All the data is already stored on a StorNext SAN filesystem (quantum ) this should be mounted on a centos server trough fiber optics , which in its turn shares the FS over NFS to all the rendernodes

Much improved speeds of rsync via SSH - something to consider
Dear rsync devs, I recently concluded a bug hunt to trace why my rsync-ing to an SBC was much slower than the corresponding iperf3-reported speeds. To give a concise summary of the situation, in slow wifi links using SSH with ProxyCommand tremendously speeds up things: $ dd if=/dev/urandom bs=1M count=50 of=sample.data 50+0 records in 50+0 records out 52428800 bytes (52 MB, 50

Profile loading/saving on gigabit network only runs at fast ethernet speeds! Help!
Hello everyone, I could really use some help trying to diagnose a tricky issue within the domain I have set up. I am using samba-3.0.28-1.el5_2.1 and openldap-2.3.27-8.el5_2.4 on a server running Centos 5.1. I have everything working properly within the domain, users can log in, netlogon scripts are run, their profile is loaded, etc. I have been extremely happy with this software and can't

performance of pv drivers for windows
Hello everybody, I tried to measure the performance of the available drivers for windows as a HVM guest. I used the gplpv drivers 0.9.11-pre17, the PV drivers from Novell, and the drivers from Citrix XenSource with the XenServer 5. The Novell and gplpv drivers were more or less at the same speed, for both, network and disk performance. The disk performance was about 10MB/s reading and

Joined machine cannot mount share, others can - strange
I run a Samba4 AD and joined a Synology NAS running Samba 3.6.9. I can access the shares using smbclient or mount -t cifs from all Linux machines (usually running Samba 3.6.6 clients). I can mount the shares from WinXP home and Win7 home. However, with a Win7 Ultimate machine joined to the AD most of the time it doesn't work. I can logon to the machine with my AD credentials, but I am

Recommendation about an usb wireless adapter to use it as HostAP
Hi all, I would like to install/test CentOS 7.X as a hostap for my home. I am thinking to use an Alfa (http://www.alfa.com.tw) usb wireless adapter or TP-Link. BUt there is not much information in Alfa's or TP-Link's web sites about which of them can run as a HostAP. If I can find any adapter that supports ac with a throughput of 150 Mbps/300Mbps, it would be great. Any recommendation?

Mount share on Synology NAS (Samba 3.6.9) as client of Samba 4.1.9 AD DC
I set-up a basic AD DC using samba 4.1.9 successfully. I joined my NAS to the domain, i.e. I saw no errors and see the users and groups of my AD listed in the GUI of the NAS. When I try to connect to a share of the NAS the following happens: mgr at ws1:~$ smbclient -U 'AD\mgr' //nas/Test Enter AD\mgr's password: Domain=[AD] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.6.9] tree connect failed:

OT: Replacing Venerable NAS
I have an original-label Infrant (now NetGear) ReadyNAS storage appliance that's been running for 8+ years. Except for replacing its power supply, it has not skipped a beat in all this time. I use it primarily as a backup device (via NFS) for a couple of Linux machines, (via SMB) for a couple of Windows PC's, and (via ftp) for web sites at my hosting provider. SMART+ reporting shows

Winbind user/group name case change
My Synology NAS runs Samba 3.6.9 and maps accounts using winbind. It is joined to my samba4 AD. I set "winbind use default domain=yes" and have no entry for "winbind normalize names". Strangely a group like "Domain Users" appears as "domain users", i.e. in all lower case. A translation which breaks idmapd for NFSv4. My Debian Wheezy 3.6.6 behaves the

Dynamic Link Aggregation via Samba
Hi, I have run into the following I bonded 6 NICs on my Cent OS server into a 600MB pipe. I use bond method 4 = dynamic Link aggregation. My Cysco Switch supports this apparently. However I only get increased bandwidth from my MAC by connecting via AFP. However when I connect via SMB I don't. I was told to change the sockect options to the following on my smb.conf file on my fileserver:

Slow Transfer Speeds (I have read the HOWTO)
Hello, I've been having a few troubles with samba 3. I can only get 4MB/sec writing to the FreeBSD server that it is running on. As its on a 100Mbit network I was expecting at least 6-7MB/sec. I've included the smb.conf below is there anything obvious that I have missed from the config that can be seen as a performance gain or does anyone have any ideas for non samba items that can

MEMDISK issues and Dell OptiPlex and Latitude systems
Hello all. Again I call upon the greats of this mailing list to help me with an issue related to MEMDISK - notably when paired with various Dell OptiPlex and Latitude systems. The issue presented itself sometime ago and I best dealt with it by remaining with version 3.83 of the SYSLINUX package. But valuing the improved changes fostered by newer versions, I would prefer to move forward with
