Bind on non-DC host (formerly: bind 9.11.b2 with samba 4.4.5)
oki doki. Thank you for precision. That kind of limitation should be added to the wiki as I would have already tried to move Bind to a non-DC host if I was able to find to to do that. And if I thought about that, some have thought about that before me. With easy virtualisation as we have now, with the idea to separate task one different systems to lower risk endured by each system, it seems to me

i want to use bind 9.11beta2 version. I do not see bind9_11.so Best regards cat /usr/local/samba/private/named.conf # This DNS configuration is for BIND 9.8.0 or later with dlz_dlopen support. # # This file should be included in your main BIND configuration file # # For example with # include "/usr/local/samba/private/named.conf"; # # This configures dynamically loadable zones (DLZ)

bind 9.11.b2 with samba 4.4.5
Hi, Did you tried to use the bind9_10 library? Did it worked? If it does not work you should be able to replace this library (which do not need configuration) by one shipped with your Bind package. This one will need configuration to know how to reach and deal with AD LDAP tree and authentication, but that should be possible... 2016-07-26 9:28 GMT+02:00 barış tombul <bbtombul at

Debian11 Samba backport and bind9
Hi Stefan, I have exact that running: Samba 4.17.4 and bind 9.18 from the bullseye-backports. I my case "samba_dnsupdate --verbose --all-names" runs without any errors. As like 9.16 I use the "dlz_bind9_18.so" entry in named.conf. If you need further information to compare just ask. AD + Bind DLZ + Site
Hi all, Using 4.3.4 + Bind DLZ @ Centos 7. Regarding AD sites, I have several questions: 1° Is it possible with Samba4 to rename Default-First-Site-Name? 2° samba-tool sites create <name> does not link new site to DEFAUTLIPSITELINK, is it the correct behaviour? 3° When a DC is not in Default-First-Site-Name, no DNS records related to that DC should exists in Default-First-Site-Name

Samba4 with external bind - best practices?
Here we (the DNS team of our company, not me ;) chose the zone type forward as it is the way DNS works (one resolver on client system, this resolver will forward requests to others DNS server to get answer) and also because that seemed to them the strongest against failure: there is no data stored on the client resolver, there can't be corrupted data on this DNS server when with masters /

Samba4 with external bind - best practices?
I found this article about separate samba4 and bind. https://quercerjanath.wordpress.com/samba-active-directory-with-bind9-on-separate-machines-ubuntu-14-04/ Em 27/07/2016 9:39 AM, "mathias dufresne" <infractory at gmail.com> escreveu: > 2016-07-26 13:16 GMT+02:00 Rowland penny <rpenny at samba.org>: > > > On 26/07/16 09:31, mathias dufresne wrote: > >

You do what you want! The point is the clients must resolve everything. You have two options: A - client resolver is non-DC DNS server: here the non-DC DNS server must be configured to forward DNS requests about AD to AD DNS servers (to DCs) B - client resolver is AD DNS server: here AD DNS server(s) used as resolver(s) must be configured to forward any non-AD DNS request to non-DC DNS server.

Ah, ok, just saw it. Sorry, I missed that. I can only add then, all three DC's in my little net are installed with bind 9.18 and working all the same without errors.
