You can join a Windows Server to a Samba4 Domain controller and set up the WSUS server role and it should work. HOWEVER, if you are going to point all your devices at the WSUS server, you will require CALs for the devices or the users using them to maintain licensing compliance with Microsoft. At this point, you have paid for the number of Windows Server CALs you need to run actual Active

PXE-capable NIC listing?
Trey, The Compaq NC7770 PCI-X Gigabit Server Adapter supports PXE: http://www.compaq.com/products/servers/networking/NC7770/ This NIC will be available next month. Also, our strategy is to support PXE on all ProLiant server embedded NICs (10/100/1000) beginning with G2 (generation2) models. Also, most existing DL and all BL servers currently support PXE on their embedded (10/100) NICs. Let

[Newbie] Row-Iterator for data.frame??
hello all, for my diploma-thesis i want to statitically analyze near-infrared-spectra. a spectrum is given by the y-values of 1038 equi-distant x-points. in nature, a spectrum is a continuous curve. for analysis, every x-point is seen as a statistical variable. now my problem: first, i read a csv-table in a data.frame called sTable via read.table. besides some meta-data there are 1038 variables

login scripts --what to use
Hi, We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share. Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files? Thanks, chris

windows upgrade
I think you are talking about making it act like WSUS or RIS role. This is not possible (but would be cool). Windows patching from Linux samba server?
I have an out-of-box, unpatched RedHat Enterprise 5 server acting as a samba PDC for a handful of Windows XP systems on a domain. This is on an isolated network - no Internet connectivity. Is there a way to configure the samba server to act as a Windows SUS server for patch pushing? If so, specifically, how? If not, other than manually installing patches on systems or buying a Windows

Samba 3.5.X
Hello, I don't know if this was reported before, I never found anything related. A few days ago I installed a Domain Controller with samba 3.5.6, with an ldap backend. I added a Windows 2008 Server R2 to the domain but never was able to authenticate to the domain, I always got the error "There are currently no logon....." . After a time I decided to try samba 3.4.8, without any

Spacewalk? Local repo? Cache?
I have a mix of CentOS 5, 6, and now 7 servers at work. There are enough of them now that it is starting to make sense for them to get updates from an internal source. I've seen RHN Satellite in years past. It looks like it may be a way to allow Windows admins here (familiar with WSUS) to update Linux boxes. A local repo might be easier to set up, but (as with Spacewalk) it seems like

Squid question
I'm having issues getting squid to send traffic through a specific upstream gateway. I need for a MS WSUS server and a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager to get through a squid proxy to get out to Microsoft and Symantec respectively to get MS patches and Symantec DAT files. The traffic needs to go through the squid proxy, through a firewall, and through an upstream McAfee gateway

Hello, First of all I would like to thank the Samba Project Group for this state of the art software. I would like to thank every body for helping each other out. Please ignore my poor English writing. It is not my native language. Although: I do the best I can. We use Samba for a while now. We started with version 4.0.6 and updated each time. Now we are at version 4.0.9 and we are planning to

My Documents Folder Redirection to Samba Share
Does anyone know how to setup the smb.conf file for the my document folder redirection in windows. If I point it to a root share, with a Microsoft file server, it will automatically create a folder for each user with a my documents folder under that. How can I get that to happen with a samba share. Using Debian Etch and Samba 3.0.24 and fairly new to samba. The default smb.conf makes mention
