Allow unencrypted TLS LDAP query
Dear It is possible to configure Samba 4.4.5 to accept queries that do not use TLS? I'm having trouble authenticating the Proxy / SquidGuard in AD Samba 4.4.5. I get this error: (squidGuard): ldap_simple_bind_s failed: Strong(er) authentication required I read the wiki Samba, the new versions are working with authentication TLS encrypted connections. It is possible to configure Samba

Porting OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 to Dynix V4.4.4
Hello Porters, I am attempting to compile OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 on a Dynix V4.4.4 host. I have set USE_PIPES and BROKEN_SAVED_UIDS (the latter because there are no functions for set{eu,eg}id() that I can find). I configured with "./configure '--with-libs=-lnsl -lsec'". Each time I attempt to login, I get this error: No utmp entry. You must exec "login" from

Samba update to 4.2.14 (SERNET) breaks LDAP access
Last night we updated out Samba-4 AD server to version 4.2.14 usng the SERNEt packages, running on SLES 12. We have a number of services (mail services, MANTIS, etc) that access the server via the LDAP interface and in all cases we discovered that none of them where able to establish a successful LDAP connection after the upgrade.   Previously we used plain LDAP to access the server, i.e. we did

Always check the release notes for new versions - including the ones you're skipping. This one contains the information you're looking for: https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-4.2.10.html And here in less

winbind trust account password management
I'm running Samba v4.4.4 as a domain member server in security=domain mode. Our 3 domain controllers are Server 2012r2. Every 3-4 days, I see log messages from winbind saying "winbind_samlogon_retry_loop: sam_logon returned ACCESS_DENIED". Sometimes this corresponds to a trust password change, but not always. Today, new connections to Samba were failing with the error

Ported OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 to Dynix
Hello Porters, I've finally (thanks to Wendy Palm of Cray) ported OpenSSH to Dynix v4.4.4. I had to make sure that "UseLogin" was set to "no" in the sshd_config file. Also, here are the old-style contextual diffs (obtained with 'diff -c' on the Dynix box) of the two files I had to change: *** configure Sat Jun 16 17:09:50 2001 --- configure.new Mon Oct 8

Need help Compiling Samba
Hi, I was recently using Samba 3.6.0 on AIX 6100-09-06-1543, but that has a security vulnerability. Therefore, I tried to compile Samba v4.4.4 on AIX 6100-09-06-1543. I am using Python 2.7.11. After running ./configure I get the following error. /usr/local/samba-4.4.4/wscript:106: error: the configuration failed (see '/usr/local/samba-4.4.4/bin/config.log') I can send you more

Setup help
I'd previously had dovecot running on a Debian server but recently migrated to Suse. The nice, simple setup for dovecot on debian is not as easy using the dovecot sources. My lack of experience I'm afraid! I'd like to continue to use dovecot, especially as my current maildir directories are all set up ready to be use again. On suse (sles9) I have users authenticating by LDAP. In

winbind terminates after machine password change and needs domain rejoin
Hello, Samba 4.4.7 AD member on Linux SLES 12 here ... We've been running flawlessly for weeks with version 4.4.5 until we updated to 4.4.6 and experienced this bug: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12369 So we updated to 4.4.7 in which this issue was fixed with an interim downgrade to version 4.4.5 until 4.4.7 was available. Now, we're experiencing another issue and it seems

Unable to PXE boot
I'm replacing the master node in a cluster and having issues PXE booting the diskless nodes. The current master works fine, but the new node to replace the current node which has the same setup is having the issues. The hardware is: Dell r920 (new master node, UEFI) Dell r620's (diskless, BIOS) Dell 1950's (diskless, BIOS) When trying to boot, the 1950 node displays (though both

Stymied with samba vs openldap SSL ("Failed to issue the StartTLS instruction...")
I know this is something which should have a simple fix but I'm failing to see it somehow. I'm moving samba service between a couple of FreeBSD systems (9.3 to 10.2), and I'm stuck on getting samba on the new machine to connect to our openldap server over ssl - frustrating since I've been running samba+ldap for 15 years or so; feel sure I'm missing something basic!

ldap support
hi, it seem to me that dovecot support only v2 ldap protocol but openldap2.1 support only v3 (or you can enable v2 in the conf file, but it seems they wouldn't like to support it in the future). will dovecot support v3 ldap protocal? thanks. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

LDAP access to Samba 4
Hello, I am currently migrating from OpenLDAP to Samba 4 PDC, and I have a webpage (PHP/Apache) available for users so that they can change their password on the existing LDAP server. I attempted to adjust that script to change the password on the Samba 4 AD controller, but I get a "cannot connect" error to LDAP. The web server the password script is running on is not on the same

Samba segment faulting - unknown cause
Hello, Recently our Samba server has started segment faulting. It happens occasionally, but is often enough to cause disruption. People notice thier network drives freeze, I am unsure of the cause of the segment fault, and have no experience debugging backtraces. Can anoyone lend a hand? We are running Samba as a primary domain controller with an Openldap backend on another server, both on

LDAP bind questions
Hello, I've got dovecot set up to authenticate against our LDAP server. So far seems to work well. I have two concerns that I haven't been able to find answers for in the documentation or archives. Is there any intention to support "authentication binds" so you don't have to bind as a user with read privileges to everyone's userPassword attribute? For security
