Remember, "force XXX mode" only applies to file/directory
creation. The client is then free to change permissions

10GE performance issues
Hi,
we have network performance issues with Samba (Version 4.2.7-SerNet-RedHat-19.el6) on one of our servers. The maximum throughput from client to server is 110 MB/s (read/write) under Windows 7 x64 (single 10GE NIC). When using NFS on a different Linux workstation we're getting much higher rates, around 500-700 MB/s. I still can't find the problem.
Setup server:
CentOS 6.6

Extended attributes not working on mac
I worked with Netatalk for years and want to switch to Samba now. Currently i use Ubuntu 20.04. and Debian 9 before, i had no issues with netatalk at all.
As soon as i try to add a color tag (e.g. yellow) with Mac OS 10.15.5, the tag appears shortly but hides one second later. The file system is ZFS with no special options configured.
I tried the Ubuntu package but also the builds from source

vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr / don't see self created files
samba-4.2.9-0.fc22.x86_64
with the configuration below a user from a up-to-date Apple client
copies a folder with some images (from the share itself) to a different
subfolder

* it appears empty in finder - in fact it is not empty
* he can not delete it
* he can rename it
* a different user from a Apple clients sees the files
* remove the "vfs objects" line and

Extended attributes not working on mac
I?m not sure if this is related, but there was a regression a while back in handling resource forks in folder icons. It was supposed to be fixed in 4.10.13 but I don?t think it quite works yet and I haven?t had the time to test it further yet.

vfs_fruit: xattr imcompatible with netatalk
Hi.
I'm testing samba 4.2.0 vfs_fruit on Fedora Server 22-alpha.
I confirmed that ResourceFork and FinderInfo are compatible with
Netatalk 3.1.7. However, EAs are incompatible.
The character ":" in EA name is wrong.
The EAs are not seen from clients.
smb.conf:
[test2]
path = /export/test2
writable = yes
vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr
fruit:locking =

macos finder error 36 when copy folder to samba 4.2.2
dear list,
encountered a problem and hopefully someone more experienced might help me.
problem is with macos 10.9.5 and finder.
i want to copy a simple folder with subfolders and without any files to
my samba share.

when i drag a folder from desktop to the share the finder errors out
with error -36 but creates all folders.
same happens when i copy an empty folder

vs_fruit - can't write to share
Hi,
i'm running Samba 4.2.1 compiled from source on an Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS Server. ACL/XATTR is active and working. I tried to activate the vfs_fruite module and added the sample code:
vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr
fruit:resource = file
fruit:metadata = netatalk
fruit:locking = netatalk
fruit:encoding = native
to the share. In addition i tried the following share definition:

move from netatalk to samba + vfsfruit
since "ea = samba" was only added to very recent netatalk versions and
so don't apply to files with a history of many years what is the way to
go get rid of netatalk these days?
is there still no tool to read/write the existing netatalk appladouble
extended attributes which are *not* compatible with samba and write them
back in the new format?
afp.conf:
appledouble = ea
ea = samba

How the vfs object “fruit” work on samba
Hi all,
I'm a user of samba. Because we still use samba version 4.1.13 but now we want to use final cut pro through cifs. We have found that need to set the conf "catia fruit streams_xattr" and is there any idea to patch code like fruit modules on samba version 4.1.13 ? I also want to know why the error "Unsupported volume type" will come out when import fcpx on mac. Thank

Allowing file permissions changes with mac os x clients.
Hi All,
at work all our clients are macs (10.10 yosemite). We are trying to move
from the classical afp file server to a samba based file server. After a
lot of testing, things now works more or less: a mac server acts as
Kerberos+OpenLDAP and a linux debian 7 box is doing the file server with
samba 4.2.0.
A client which has "joined" (which is bound in mac jargon) the

Optimal File Permissions for Shared Access Between Windows and Linux
Hi Rowland,
Thank you for your feedback. I apologize for not including the global
section in my previous message. Here it is:
[global]
?? min protocol = SMB3
?? workgroup = WORKGROUP
As you can see, there isn?t much in the global section.
To answer your question about the permissions on |/mnt/shared|, here are
the settings:
