office 365
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/jj631606.aspx
goes through the steps I remember taking in a windows environment. As you
can see step 2 is to install ADFS this is what would need emulated with
some web server.
So I will try and google ADFS on apache or nginx or linux. I'll let you
know if I find anything interesting.

office 365
Hi Jeff,
But I don't mind to run a windows IIS server for this at all. It's just
the AD DCs that are samba, we have a windows server running here
(printserver) that I could use for if required.
So you problems are because you tried to get this running using apache..?
Thanks for your reaction,
MJ

We had set Office 365 to use single sign on at my last place of work.
Microsoft uses a significant part of what is built into IIS on Windows
Servers. I don't see this as being possible any time soon. I could be wrong
for all I know someone may have developed a simple set of apache/nginx
plugin/scripting/page_layout to handle the authentication but I have not
seen it. A little bit about it:

question on password server =
Hi,
I would like to ask how exactly the "password server =" smb.conf option
works. The man pages say that the option is to "restrict Samba to to do
all its username/password validation using a specific remote server"
I know that we should normally leave it empty, to have samba
auto-discover the DCs. But my question is:
Suppose it's defined it like:

smbldap-populate failure
dear list,
I'm trying to migrate nt4 to samba3, and have two issues at the moment.
First is: I'm getting two (small?) errors using smbldap-populate on my ldap
database. At first I tried ignoring this, but now also rpc net vampire
complains. (maybe because of this..?)
This is the output of smbldap-populate:

Pair ADFS with samba: possible?
hi all,
is it feasible to setup a ADFS server paired with a samba AD DC?
Are there ADFS requirements (versions not older than ..., not newer than
...) if the samba AD DC is samba-4.9.1?
I tried to match a Windows Server 2016 ADFS v3 with a samba-4.9.1 AD DC.
The web form authentication allow a user to insert username and
password, the ADFS correctly recognizes wrong password, but when

multiple dns forwarders
Hi,
To make our AD more robust, I'd like to provide more than one dns
forwarder, like for example:
dns forwarder = 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
However, this seems to break dns resolution completely (and without
logging errors in the logs!):
# Host test.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
With only one forwarder things work:
$ test.com has address 208.64.121.161
Am I really allowed to specify only one

ADFS support?
Hi,
Is it possible to query an Exchange server for its user list via ADFS
using samba?
I'm interested in integrating this support with postfix on my fedora
system instead of having to maintain the list in Exchange and the list
as a map in postfix.
I really don't know much about Exchange and whether/how this would
work. Is it secure?
Is LDAPS an alternative? Is it secure?
Thanks,
Alex

FastCGI performing better than Mongrel - what am I doing wrong?
I tried benchmarking the same site behind an NGINX proxy with both
fastcgi and mongrel, and for some reason mongrel is performing pretty
poorly in comparison.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Here''s my benchmarks for 1 fcgi:
Server Software: nginx/0.4.0
Server Hostname: eship.com.br
Server Port: 80
Document Path: /

identify 143 vs 993 clients
Hi,
I am trying to find a nice way to identify dovecot clients that are
still configured to use port 143 to connect to our mailserver, from the
dovecot logs.
I would then ask them to move over to 993, and finally disable port 143
altogether.
When looking at the dovecot logs, it seems this is not logged in any
obvious way.
Of course I could use netflow etc, but that would not give us

Office 365, Windows 10 and Samba AD
Hello everybody,
i found out, that there's a problem with Windows 10, Office 365 and Samba
AD. A Win 10 Client, joined to a Samba AD Domain does not allow office 365
to connect to an IMAP Based Mail service.
If the AD controller is a windows 2012 R2, this works. See:

two listeners with different "driver = " configs
Hi,
I would like to have two seperate imap listeners, with different
authentication settings, but the mailstore and userbase etc will be
identical.
I know I can do this:

But I'm unsure how to configure imap/143 with "driver =

IMAP proxy between Office 365 client/Sun Messaging Server
I would like to be able to migrate messages from existing end-user
accounts on Sun Messaging Server to Office 365 using an administrator
login and password. Unfortunately the migration tool for Office 365
doesn't support SASL AUTHENTICATE PLAIN login.
The online documentation I've found suggests that I should be able to
configure dovecot as an IMAP proxy and have it log in to Sun

Adding an AD group to /etc/sudoers?
# cat /proc/sys/kernel/ngroups_max
65536
# sysctl kernel.ngroups_max
kernel.ngroups_max = 65536
Is there a way to change/look at AUTH_SYS?
Seems I have 28 groups now as my user
I tried created a test user with much less groups
but it turns out it is on all those other groups.
As such I tried
winbind nested groups=no
but this doesn't seem to change anything.

IMAP folders showing no messages in Office 365 Outlook
I'm new to Dovecot. Using Dovecot IMAP with Postfix, everything works
fine using Thunderbird. But with the same setup, no messages show in
IMAP folders for user accounts created in Outlook, accessing exactly the
same server as the accounts in Thunderbird.
Dovecot version 2.3.7.1.
Is there any configuration required that is special to support Office
365 Outlook clients? How to debug this?

environments, with Samba as the AD DC.
I'm sorry that I don't have great news. The schema upgrade is the easy
