If this is an NT4-style domain, then DNS is not essential. Things like SRV records aren't relevant since a lot of the NT4 is back from the NetBios days. It looks like your Win 10 machine thinks it is trying to join an AD domain. Windows clients machines typically are using DNS to resolve server names to IP addresses. However DNS does not provide info on locating PDC's

A couple of other issues to keep in mind... Aside from the fact that the errors suggest your W10 box is trying to join an AD domain, W10 also defaults to a protocol of SMB 3.3 which Samba 3.x does not support. If you resolve the issue wherein W10 thinks it is joining an AD domain, there's a strong possibility (if not certainty) you will then see errors in the log of the W10 box indicating

Just to verify, did you configure the Win 10 machine as a WINS client ? The PDC will not necessarily be the master browser (showing what resources are available on the network) - browser elections are weighted towards machines with newer OS's. You can adjust the "os level" parameter in smb.conf to bias the election in favor of the PDC but if WINS is being used none of

You're right, Samba as member of an AD domain or Samba as AD DC are relying on AD database to get its list of users. root user is not into AD database, you can't use it to authenticate yourself against AD. Note that you should be able to create a root user into AD database and then you would be able to log with root against AD but I don't think this is a good idea... 2016-05-06 16:56

Hi Gaiseric, Thank you for quick reply. I configured my PDC as WINS server and specified "IP of PDC". I observed some errors in NMBD log, "become_domain_master_query failed". I am googling these errors. On Mon, May 16, 2016 at 6:57 PM, Gaiseric Vandal <gaiseric.vandal at gmail.com> wrote: > If this is an NT4-style domain, then DNS is not essential. Things like

Will it support Samba 4.2 version for Windows 10 Clients which is getting RHEL 7.2 builtin ? Present PDC production server is running on samba

Mandatory Server Signing with Windows 7
When I enable server signing in Samba (server signing = mandatory), I can still join a Window 7 machine to the domain but I am no longer able to log on into the domain using a domain user. Is this normal? I am using Samba 3.6.3 on Linux 12.04. Is there anything that needs to be configured on the Windows machine? Thanks, Ali

Suddenly Windows clients can't join Samba+ldap PDC anymore
You should be able to unbind ipv6 for the win 10 machine's network interface. does "nslookup SRV1" work? Also, you may want to try running tcpdump or ethereal or wireshark on our PDC and see what traffic is captres. Suddenly Windows clients can't join Samba+ldap PDC anymore
Excuse me for the little flood please, i've just checked it again and now i see SRV1 as master for exedra.cat workgroup, i event can see in the logs Samba name server SRV1 is now a local master browser for workgroup EXEDRA.CAT on subnet 192.168.69.203 So i'll keep digging on how to fix the issue exposed on my first email, tomorrow i'll try to see wether it's an IPV6 issue or

Suddenly Windows clients can't join Samba+ldap PDC anymore
I was trying to fix a problem on Windows 10 with Outlook 2013. Also running an NT4-style domain. The machine had already been joined to the domain and outlook had been working but recently not (probably after patch tuesday.) I also had had problems with Win 10 mail and RDP. I came across the following link.

Hi, thanks a lot for your reply. Yes, i enabled wins through "wins support = yes", i also enabled lmhosts lookup and wins on all clients but will check it as you proposed. Tomorrow will try to disable ipv6 on Windows clients following this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929852 Which process did you follow to disable IPV6? I'm also wondering if it's really necessary

surprising difference in log()
Hello everybody My collegue and I noticed a strange behaviour of R on different platforms. It's a simple computation, but results are rather different. On Windows XP: > floor(log(8,2)) [1] 3 which is what one should expect. Here's instead the result with Mac OS X (same version, 2.5.0 (2007-04-23)) > floor(log(8,2)) [1] 2 Is it a "bug" in R or in the operating

xp clients can't auth after reboot without smb restart
I currently have several fresh installs of XP that will connect to shares, but will not reconnect after a workstation reboot. These are workstations that are not joined to the domain. Only accessing shares from a local profile, but using the same user/pass to login as to connect to Samba. I get various errors at that point. Upon reboot, attempting to access the share generates: "An error
