standalone ADDC with samba_internal dns backend - windows client do not register in dns
good lords of Kobol, that solved my problem ! thank you very much ! As we can consider this as an official workaround, should it be in the wiki ? (this is definitively in my docs now :) On 05/04/2016 07:55 PM, lingpanda101 at gmail.com wrote: > On 5/4/2016 5:02 AM, David STIEVENARD wrote: >> Hi >> >> first project with samba, first post on this mailing list and, >>

standalone ADDC with samba_internal dns backend - windows client do not register in dns
In short: BIND9_DLZ to avoid issues. Regarding your issue with internal DNS and client updates, I don't know if Windows client rely on DNS I would check SOA record of root zone to verify it is set up correctly (ie it is aiming a valid DC, up and well running) with: dig -t SOA your.domain.tld (on linux) nslookup -type=soa your.domain.tld (on windows) You must receive a reply. The reply must

Samba 4 ADDC. Dynamic DNS updates from Windows clients.
I'm currently testing samba 4, and I've come across a problem which I can't seem to find an answer for. I have one samba 4 ADDC running on a Centos 6 container, compiled from the latest stable source release and setup as per the samba wiki. I'm running the internal DNS server. DHCP is provided to the network by an openwrt router. The router is configured to hand out the DNS

Question Wiki Setup a Samba Active Directory Domain Controller
Hi again, I refer to https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_Active_Directory_Domain_Controller#Testing_your_Samba_Domain_Controller Thank you for this great wiki! I run all the tests and everything looks perfect! I encounter just a little difference here. Actually I thought that there should be no Master and Workgroup for a AD DC. (as given in the wiki and in Stefan Kania's book

Signed Dynamic DNS Updates with Internal DNS [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
UNCLASSIFIED I just installed SAMBA 4 as the PDC on a new standalone Windows network (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO#Samba_AD_management). Everything appears to be working correctly except for signed dynamic updates. Non-secure updates work fine. A, AAAA and PTR records are added to DNS when a PC joins the domain or I issue ipconfig /registerdns. Using wireshark, I see the

AD order of installation
I don't see the following at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_Active_Directory_Domain_Controller There is an 'order' of installation for an AD. Some things must come before others, some things can come when you may. Here is my take based on what I have learned over the past weeks: OS installation (listed for completeness, even though this is a 'dah' item).

ipconfig /registerdns & PTR Records
Hello $LIST, i setup a new clean domain to examine the feature of updating/creating PTR records. When i call ipconfig /registerdns on the client i get this entry in the windows eventlog (sorry german) Fehler beim Registrieren der Hostressourceneinträge (A oder AAAA) für den Netzwerkadapter mit den folgenden Einstellungen: Adaptername: {2A467E48-624B-4CCF-9B7D-9BA5629D8117}

Dynamic DNS Updates
Having reconfigured Samba4 to use BIND as a DNS server to get dynamic DNS updates working, I'm still working to understand the system. The Windows client I'm testing only seems up update DNS if I run ipconfig /registerdns. It doesn't update DNS at startup or IP change OOTB. Is it expected that Windows clients run a startup script running ipconfig /registerdns or have dynamic updates

dcesrv: NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER
Hello all. I?m trying to set up my debian vserver for connection with Outlook. I decided to go with * mysql (with auth data) * samba * openchange * SOGo and for Outlook connectivity I installed ocsmanager. As the last one isn?t included in debians repositories, I included the nightly repositories from inverse.ca<http://inverse.ca>. Those also offer a more recent samba

DNS Registration
I have a few Samba 3.0.14a servers nicely running with ADS security and winbind on Debian Sarge. The one problem I seem to have is their DNS registration with our WIN2K3 name servers that I have no access to. I see that most WIN2K/XP/03 register automatically (DDNS) or manually with the command ipconfig /registerdns. I can probably ask for records to be manually entered but I thought I would

Administrator account lost administrative privileges
Hello,     Using Samba 4.7.4 on 6 Ubuntu 14.04 as DC's. Recently noticed applications were failing to install on Windows 10 and 7 workstations. Started to investigate and noticed the Administrator account could not install software.  The Domain Admins appear to work as normal with full domain rights. As a test I logged in to a Windows 10 workstation as Administrator and invoked a
