SAMBA Interdomain Trust relationships
I have two SAMBA PDC's with an OpenLDAP backend. My goal is to establish an interdomain trust between the two domains so that users from each backend can login to Windows systems by specifying accounts from either domain.
I've followed the steps to establish the trusts and I can see accounts and groups using wbinfo and getent.
I can access resources/shares from each domain but I'm

bad password lockout works fine in Samba AD mode. Is there a technical
reason for you to keep on using PDC NT4 mode? In AD mode, you'll also
get a LDAP, and it will be much easier to setup and manage!

samba bad password count reset between logins (not loaded from login_cache.tdb)
I found out the answer to why the bad password count was failing by
following the stack trace
If anyone has the same problem, this was caused by my access rights being
too restrictive.
source/passdb/Init_sam_from_ldap.c:1064 => There is a "goto fn_exit;" in
case ldapsam_get_entry_timestamp() fails before the cache is read via
login_cache_read. This function will fail if it cannot

Password trouble with LDAP (eDirectory)
Hi All,
I have a strange problem with passwords, stored in LDAP.
When i try to logon as a user with the correct password, access is
denied and the log says
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [administrator] ->
[administrator] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER
When i try to logon a user with incorrect password, access is (of
course) denied, but the log now says

samba bad password count reset between logins (not loaded from login_cache.tdb)
Hi Denis,
Thanks for your suggestion
When I looked into Samba4 AD, I figured it would take too much effort to port our infrastructure to it, seemingly without benefits
We already have a quite extensive network architecture with OpenLDAP acting as a LDAP server. Samba4 AD seems to require its own LDAP implementation (and some more quirks IIRC).
There's also the additional DNS configuration

samba bad password count reset between logins (not loaded from login_cache.tdb)
I recently migrated our samba PDC to an LDAP backend on a test machine.
Testing my account policies, I found out that the password lockout did not
work.
When authentication fail, samba seems to call init_ldap_from_sam asking to
update the bad password count.
When I set the lockout threshold to 1, the account is locked after a failed
attempt and the badPasswordCount attribute is updated correctly

Samba after upgrade+migration, Win7 workstation trusts lost
Hello list - I am not sure my messages are getting out to the list, so I
will attempt in this message to summarize the problems I am having that have
been the subject of a few other posts.
I recently upgraded from a command-line Slackware installation to Debian
Jessie. As part of that exercise, Samba was upgraded from 3.5.x to 4.1.17.
My upgrade method was probably not idea: I recursively

nitwit's attempt to edit samba source
Hi,
Since I really would like some more info (specifically: remote ip
address) to be logged with failed password attempts, I have tried to
edit the samba source code. :-)
Anyway, I changed in source4/auth/ntlm/auth.c

Problem with groups in samba
I've recently had a problem in samba with groups. I'm using security at
share level. If I sets username to name of users it's works fine:
username = aaa,bbb,ccc
However, I would like to be able to using groups. When I trying to do that
as below.
username = @users
I get strange errors:

If I use "connect network drive..." method with "connect as another user",
then it will always work.
If I use start, search , \\server\share and then type user/pass in

Can't connect anymore a share in domain A from domain B since
Try it like this.
net use z: \\<computer in A.FQDN\<share> /USER:NTDOM\%username%
Does that work for the samba 4.1, if not, check if you windows disabled smbv1
See:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4034314/smbv1-is-not-installed-by-default-in-windows
Best is, upgrade you systems so you can use samba 4.7+

samba 3.0.2a-Debian +ldapsam +smbldap-tools 3.0rc4-1= newly created users can't log in
There is something very strange going on with new users...
i've created a new user using the smbldap-tools
creation goes fine...
smbldap-useradd -a -g labusers -G power_users -n -c 'test user' -m -P

I've set the password and i see this in my ldap dir:
ldapsearch -x -D cn=ldapadmin,dc=bitc,dc=unh,dc=edu -W
'(&(uid=testuser)(objectclass=SambaSamAccount))'

Can't connect anymore a share in domain A from domain B since
Hi,
In the past (2 months ago) : I have two AD Domain under Samba 4.1 : A
and B. I war able to connect a share in A from B.
Now (after upgrade) : I have a W2016 domain (B) and a Samba 4.6 domain
(A) but I can't connect a share in A from B. The user from B which try
to connect the share in A has the same login in the two domains.
So since the upgrade I don't have the same behavior
