Samba 4 "Services for UNIX"?
I have a working Samba 4.0.0 AD DC running and am able to manage users etc using the Windows tools. Great. Now I want to as much as possible eliminate the need for an additional directory service (OpenLDAP and/or Open Directory) if not entirely. I need automount working and Posix users. I believe it's possible to set this up but haven't been able to find any solid documentation - Can

Samba 4.7.1 - ldap multi process - excessive processes
Hi, with the change in Samba 4.7 that ldap is now running multiple processes I'm having resource constraint issues. Before it was fine to run any number of clients against samba, but now the ldap clients are limited. My server quickly ran out of memory! 1) Is there any solution exept adding more RAM? 2) One process should be able to handle more than 1 connection! This is an archaic

Setting a vampired Samba4 as RID Master
Dear All, I vampired a Samba4 from a Windows 2003 Server AD. My idea was to transfer all users and groups, then shutdown the Windows 2003 AD and promote Samba4 as Operations Master. I have been able to do so with the Infrastructure and Main Domain Controller roles but not with the RID role. Is there a hack or manual operation I can do to have a completely independent AD based on Samba4 that

Doubt about Global Catalog on Samba 4
Hi When I work with RSAT on Samba4 appear the following message: "A global catalog (GC) cannot be contacted. A GC is needed to list the objects group memberships. ..." Occur, for example, when I access properties about an user or computer, as member of or Unix Attribute tab I have executed some tests, and for me looks like is healthy my DC. Is there another test to verify the health

Magically disappearing errors during FSMO transfer
Recently tried transferring roles from Samba 4.3.11 to Samba 4.7.0. Ultimately, both dcs agreed that the 4.7.0 dc (dc3) had all the roles and replication and the databases were in good shape. However, during the process, I got a lot of errors that seemed to magically disappear. Should I be worried? root at dc3:~# samba-tool fsmo show SchemaMasterRole owner: CN=NTDS

Transfer the FSMO roles
I've been thinking if it's better to make a new Samba 4 DC server instead upgrade the old DC and then transfer the FSMO roles to it and shut down the old server. This way the installation would be cleaner and free of any errors of the old installation. I'm using Samba 4.2.1 and the result of command below is: root at EMPRESA:~# samba-tool fsmo show InfrastructureMasterRole owner:

Fwd: Re: Problem with Samba4 DB
hi mathias let me confirm your statement so.. you think if we demote those 2 DC server that already offline, the DNS will be running well well if this is one of option we have, i will consider to upgrade our FSMO DC from samba 4.1.X to 4.4.x , by the way, are there any consideration if we update samba directly from 4.1 to 4.4 ? let me answer some of your question *1 - what command are you

Failing to join existing AD as DC
First of all, thanks to you all for bearing with me. To answer the questions: - Subnets: yes, different subnets, routing is fine, can connect to Windows DC via telnet (DNS), OpenSSL on 389 and 636 - Naming: I could not find any object in the existing AD with the same name of the Samba DC that I want to add - Join existing: I try to join an existing Windows AD, not Samba AD I wiped the

DN lists have different size: 4065 != 4029
Hello, dc3 = principal DC dc4 = secondary DC I had this problem last month after updating samba to version 4.10.x. and also the schema from 45 to 69. But it looked like it had been corrected. Today I noticed that on dc4 there are computers that are not on dc3. I updated: 4.7.x to 4.8.x 4.8.x to 4.9.x and only after that I upgrade to 4.10.x version. When I run these commands: samba-tool

another demoting that doesn't work
Hi, I have searched here, and noticed some discussion lately on problems demoting a dc. In my case, all roles are on DC2, and DC1 & DC3 know that: root at DC1:/var/log/samba# samba-tool fsmo show InfrastructureMasterRole owner: CN=NTDS Settings,CN=DC2,CN=Servers,CN=Default-First-Site-Name,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=samba,DC=company,DC=com RidAllocationMasterRole owner: CN=NTDS

Error Demoting DC Windows from Domain

I have verified that the Samba 4 servers are OK, but I am having trouble removing the latest DC Windows Server 2008. Additional indexes in Samba4
Hi, I've found in the list how to add new indexes to Samba4. I read the you have to modify the searchFlags attr in the schema. I've tried but fails. # ldapmodify -f uid.ldif SASL/GSSAPI authentication started SASL username: administrator at mydomain.local SASL SSF: 56 SASL data security layer installed. modifying entry "CN=uid,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=mydomain,DC=local"
