Where do SIDs come from?
Hello, I've got a potentially major problem: I've recently changed from samba-TNG (vintage last February) which was working tolerably well in our environment barring a few locking problems and the ever increasing tdb files and memory footprint. As our number of clients has passed 150, the amount of memory used on our Solaris server became unsustainable and I took the decision to migrate

server change
Hi, Recently we changed our samba server to a bigger and more powerful system ( centos 5.2 ) The config file and smbpasswd and other passwd and group files were copied to the new server and it then assumed the same identity as the old one in the dns and ip address. It seems to have gone very well except we now seem to have a problem. There are windows XP workstations that were domain joined to the

Rename domain during classicupgrade step?
I can see in the docs that a domain rename is not recommended/supported by Samba for an already provisioned domain. However, what I can't work out is if this is not possible during the classicupgrade step either? Does this make any difference, or would it present the same difficulties as renaming an already provisioned Samba AD? It case what I'm asking is not quite clear - I have a

New samba server
I did not get this finished last summer, so decided to just wait and do it this summer. I have setup my new samba server and was trying to get some things tweaked to the way that I want them. I thought that I had asked this before and that I could do it, but it seems that it does not work. My new server is running as a domain server just like the old. It has the same domain name and I change

Problem with Domain SID
Hi all, We have a small network with WinXP Prof SP2 machines and a Linux (Debian) PDC using Samba 3.0.22. We encountered the following situation: One user was not able to lo into the domain any more some days ago. Using logging on samba side, I found out that samba correctly authenticates the machine and the workstation. Though, XP did not log in, giving a message that the password might not

SID resolution to Username
Hello, I have two Samba 3.0.22 PDCs and each trust each other. When I add an user of each domain to the permissions of a file on a windows machine (W2k, WXP), it shows for them DOMAIN\USERNAME. Everything is fine. But when i close the permission window and reopen it, then the user out of the trusted domain is only shown as SID. The one of the own domain is resolved fine. This happens on clients

Change in SID: users having trouble
When I migrated our Samba PDC from version 2.2.7 to 3.0, I was forced to have the 4 machines we are using rejoin our domain, because the SID had changed. Since then, users have been able to log on, but any attempt to start IE, or Outlook fails, apparently because something in the user's profile cannot be accessed due to the SID modification, and the icons in the WinXP start menu have

hi everyone something like this: [big] path = /data/big writeable = no [my.big] path = /data/big/my writeable = yes [your.big] path = /data/big/your writeable = yes is such a configuration healthy? What are possible negative implications this may cause, if any? ver. 4.4 many thanks, L

Samba LDAP SID and Local SID
Hi All, I am running Samba - 3 using a ldap backend, recently I have needed to change the domain of the computers as I am migrating to other server, I have the ldap database and populated the ldap database on the new server, but I am facing a problem with SID's as the SambaSID in the ldap backend is from the old samba server which is different from the current SambaSID(net

Samba 2.2 -> 3.0.0 upgrade: questions + Internet Connection Wizard / Identities
Hello, I just upgraded from Samba 2.2.7 to Samba 3.0.0 on RedHat 9. I did this by uninstalling the 2.2.7 samba RPM's and then applying the Samba 3.0.0 RPM from samba.org, then putting my local changes back into smb.conf. I have also migrated my smb users from smbpasswd to tdbsam with the pdbedit utility as discussed in the HOWTO. It seems I have to rejoin my client boxes (windows 2000 pro)

We need to change our AD domain
Hi Andrew, I understand that Samba doesn't support domain renaming, which is why I'm looking for a way to export the data from one domain and import it into a new one. Passwords and machine accounts are not a problem and can be ignored for this exercise. The key things I need to copy across are user accounts and groups, as they would be an absolute pain in the rear end to redo from

peer rejected but connected
Logs from newly added node helped me in RCA of the issue. Info file on node 10.5.6.17 consist of an additional property "tier-enabled" which is not present in info file from other 3 nodes, hence when gluster peer probe call is made, in order to maintain consistency across the cluster cksum is compared. In this case as both files are different leading to different cksum, causing state in

SAMBA4 - Trusted relationship lost every Weeks
Hi All, Answering to myself, this problem still occurs again and again, every week as I mentioned before. Rejoining the domain each time for samba4 file server is the only workaround. What could be the origin of this kind of problem? Any answer would be helpfull Regards Le 17/07/2017 à 10:12, Julien TEHERY a écrit : > Hello, > > > We recently put in place a trust relationship

Internal DNS migrate to Bind9_DLZ
Hello, sorry, but I cannot find start of this discussion thread, so my question may be stupid. Is your domain classicupgraded from Samba 3 or provisioned from scratch? I have similar problem with our domain which is upgraded. If I provision the new domain everything works, but in old domain there is something broken inside. For Rowland: Does exist utility with similar function as "net rpc

net rpc vampire - cannot login to migrated computer accounts
Hello experts, I've migrated our NT4 domain to sambe 3.0.20b/ldap backend with "net rpc vampire", and nearly everything works as expected. But one big problem remains: it's not possible to login to the domains member maschines now, because "the domain is not available at the moment" (translated from german). After the maschine rejoined the samba domain, login
