samba server with two kerberos realms
Hi Rowland,
> Are you using sssd or nslcd ?
I am using sssd. I can ssh into the server using credentials from either
kerberos realm.
E.g.
ssh cwseys at PHYSICS.WISC.EDU@smb01.physics.wisc.edu
(works)
ssh seys at AD.WISC.EDU@smb01.physics.wisc.edu
(works)
PHYSICS.WISC.EDU is an MIT kerberos KDC.
AD.WISC.EDU is a active directory KDC (etc).
The reason I thought sssd would be best is because

passwd chat for samba->kerberos passwd-sync
Hello!
I tried to run a samba3 server as pdc for windowsXP clients with ldap
backend and kerberos authentication.
I stuck with these two possibilities:
1. Samba is pdc, winxp is domain-member, users are autheticated against
smbpasswords within ldapsam.
If the kerberos password of the korresponding principal has the same
password, the users get a ticket from the kdc after windows logon.
But I

Windows 7 client trying to authenticate with windows machine name
Hello there.
I'm having an issue authenticating a Windows 7 (not in a domain) against a Samba 4.1.17 (debian Jessie). It appears that the client is trying to authenticate using with it's machine name and not the user filled in the auth form. I'm using security = user and I can confirm that the share is working with Win8. Could you check my conf & the error and share me your

Password Sync not letting users to change password.
Dear all,
Ubuntu 8.04 Server
Samba 3.0.28a configured as PDC.
I want to give options to samba users to change their own passwords and sync
it with the unix passwords whenever they change it.
I have used the following in my smb.conf file
unix password sync = yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *Enter\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\s*\spassword:*

samba 4 joining samba 3 pdc - group mismatch
Hi all
Background: I am not a samba expert, not even close!
I have a ancient samba 3 (Server role: ROLE_DOMAIN_PDC) and I intend to
migrate all files to a samba 4 (Server role: ROLE_DOMAIN_MEMBER)
Users will stay in S3 for now.
Samba 4 joined samba 3 with no problems.
I rsync'ed all files and its permissions (rsync -a ...).
But...
I cannot find a way that makes S4 sees S3 users and groups

Configure a linux client to be a member of a Samba Domain and allow users from Domain to sign on.
Hi,
I have a Samba server setup as a PDC. I have a mostly Windows client in the
domain. I have one linux client that I configured and joined the domain.
However, after joining the domain, I can't login with any of the domain
users.
I have the SMB.conf configured on the client side as security=domain
What else do I have to do to allow smb users to login to the linux box? I
searched google
