DNS backend
Hello.
which are the main differences between Samba_Internal and BIND9_DLZ ?
I refer to the differences about functionality such as zone transfers and automatic updates.
Which others functionalities offers BIND9, that Samba_Internal doesn't support ?
Is it possible to use a DNS Server (Bind9) separate of the DC Samba4? I mean, in other server.
Thanks for reply,
FelipeGS6 .

which DNS backend ?
Hi Rowland,
Would you care to elaborate on that last sentence? I've not seen that
mentioned before and I'm very curios about your reasons for saying it,
especially as we're using internal DNS for our two DCs.
regards,
John

Bind_DLZ and two AD DC
My first Active Directory setup had two DC's and shortly after getting
things going the second DC created a hardware failure issue and I just
continued life with one DC.
Now, while upgrading I am returning to two DC's.
In a normal Bind9 "master and slave" setup the master always "feeds" the
slave.
With Bind9_DLZ setup (recommended to be used with Samba4) there is

DNS (bind_dlz) forwarding not working

- Internal DNS that responds to our services (site, moodle, etc) -
ns.myinstitution.edu (registered in registro.br)
- Samba DNS answering for samba stuff - addc.myinstitution.edu
Maybe it's better to use SAMBA_INTERNAL instead of BIND_DLZ?

Samba AD with external DNS server
Hallo,
We have Samba4 (Sernet, Version4.1) on a Debian Wheezy server. There we try to
use our Infoblox (It is our primary and secondary DNS server) as an external DNS
server for the active directory on the samba4 server. It doesn?t matter which
setup option (Samba_internal, bind_dlz, none) we use it doesn?t work.

to know which dns-backend ?
Hello guys:
I need to know a strategy to identify which dns-backend are Samba4 DC using: BIND9 or Internal?
Some time ago someone told me I can check this by verifying if exists the user 'dns-hostname'.
But, what if this user has been deleted?
Or, what's the situation if I need to get the dns-backend on a replication environment?
On the other hand, How can I know if my server is

Migrating samba AD DC from 4.1.0 to 4.7.0 and dns backend change
Hi,
We are in the process of migrating our samba AD (4.1.0pre1-GIT-6be458d)
to the latest 4.7.0 release. In the process we want to switch from the
BIND_DLZ to the internal dns server.
I have done some experiments in our test environment and everything
seems to work ok, but I'm not sure how to handle the dns backend change.
Is it just the case of running

Oh yes you are, you have this in your /etc/bind/named.conf.local :

(Kerberos)problems during replication
Hi all:
I joined a samba4 DC to Win2k3. After run the samba-tool domain join command, all data migrate perfectly.
BUT then when I create an object into either samba4 or win2k3, these objects are not replicated to the another DC.
Then, I tried to obtain a kerberos ticket (kinit) and the output is: kinit: "Clock skew too great while getting initial credentials".
Then I sync both CDs

Samba and DNS backend question
I had configured Samba AD's with Bind9_DLZ in all DC. But for some reason
(i couldn't determine) three (sambadc02,03,04) AD's responded very slowly
. So change to Samba_Internal backend into the servers with problem and
works fine.
sambadc01 -> with FSMO roles - Bind9_DLZ
sambadc02 -> Samba_Internal
sambadc03 -> Samba_Internal
sambadc04 -> Samba_Internal

Segmentation fault in samba_upgradedns - Samba 4.4.5
Hi,
I'm having the following issue when trying to switch from samba_internal to
bind9_dlz. I have been following the procedure here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Changing_the_DNS_backend#
Changing_from_Samba_Internal_DNS_to_BIND_DLZ
I get the following:
[root at dc2 ~]# /usr/local/sbin/samba_upgradedns --dns-backend=BIND9_DLZ
Reading domain information
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Samba Migration and AD integration
Hi Rowland,
Thank you.
Yes to the first point.
We are using Bind9 but to continue using it is not necessarily set in stone. If using Samba Internal DNS makes more sense then we can do that too. The question is do we need to do dns-upgrade and use Internal DNS, pre-migration? Then use internal dns during the classic migration? Also, I assume the bind9 service will have to stopped if infact we
