How to use ldapsam only for authentication?
Hi Meike,
As far as I understood you are using ldapsam only when Samba is running as
AD domain controller.
And when Samba is running as AD DC, all user stuffs go to AD and so ldapsam.
In the configuration you described I expect your users are existing twice:
once in /etc/passwd as Linux users and once in Samba TDB as Samba users.
As there is work to do to the change you speak about, why not

IDMAP Cache
Hello dear list,
I have running a Samba 3 server (under SLES11) connected to an
LDAP-Server and it is running well.
But now, I like to migrate to Samba 4 and I've made a few tests before.
The whole time I with Samba 3, I was surprised about the many ldap requests so
that I thought about an additional local OpenLDAP proxy cache.
But now with Samba 4 (with the same configuration like Samba 3,

it is only a standalone server, no sid/gid (mapping) needed. All users
and groups are local (passwd/groups) maintained.
We only want to authenticate the users against the ldap server
(openDJ). No Active Directory is used.
But if I configure, there are a lot (to much) ldap

separate config for dedicate user
Hello,
I run samba 3.6 and I need to track problems for dedicated users.
So I thought, I load at the end via include special configurations for
the user separately.
My question is, how does the smbd configure itself. Does smbd
1) reads the config completely and then it set the parameters in the process or
2) does smbd reads and set each parameter instantly?
So can I use the following example?

samba 3.0.4 and -with-ldapsam
I am trying to get samba 3.0.4 to work as a PDC using LDAP with my old samba 2
schema. I used -with-ldapsam when building in the hope that that would be OK.
I had a problem when it came to "net groupmap ..." because samba was trying to use
the samba 3 schema attribute sambaSID. I got round this by setting
passdb backend = smbpasswd ldapsam:ldap://<myldap>
so it appears to

Setup of Samba with Solaris 11.3 to provide Unix File Shares to Windows Users
Dear List,
I am trying to set up Samba 3.6.25 (solaris 11.3 packaged) to provide
unix file shares to windows users.
I can successfully list groups and users with wbinfo -u / wbinfo -g,
but I do not get any data with "getent group" or "getent passwd". In AD, we
have set "gidNumber" Attribute for Group "Domain Users" to a value in the
specified range

Hello dear list,
can someone help me?
The manual page clearly states:
"The idmap backend provides a plugin interface for *Winbind* to use
varying backends to store SID/uid/gid mapping tables." and
"ID mapping in Samba is the mapping between Windows SIDs and Unix user
and group IDs. This is performed by *Winbindd* with a configurable
plugin interface."
So, that's the

"net sam provision" and samba 3.4.0
Dear list,
i had some problems with "net sam provision" using samba 3.4.0
I followed the instructions described on http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix and those published by iX 4-6/2008 (www.ix.de)
but the result of "net sam provision" was always :
# bin/net sam provision

Access to administrative shares on Windows
Hi people:
I'm running Samba 3.0.33 and 3.3.5 (both just for testing at different
installations) under CentOS Linux 5.5. My Samba server is configured
as PDC with an LDAP backend based on OpenLDAP+smbldaptools+gosa.
I understand this:
1. Every Windows machine has a local Administrators group.
2. When a Windows machine joins my Samba domain (named MYDOM), the
group "MYDOM\Domain

example for id mapping. Hope someone can help!
Previously we did run samba 4.7 on CentOS 7 without problems as domain

Migration from 3.5.6-27 to 3.6.16-31
Hello,
I have a debian etch with (samba 3.5.6-27,) shares and windows 7 in the
domain. This works ok.
Since i installed the new version 3.6.16-31 I can not login with domain
users in my windows client and the shares are inaccessible.
I solved the problem with the login, removing the following line in my
smb.conf:
*ldapsam:trusted = yes*
but why this line works with the version 3.5.6-27 and not

Migration Samba3 -> Samba4: Accessing domain member server is not working
Hi ...
When trying to migrate from samba3 to samba 4.2.2 I am facing a severe
problem that bugs me for hours now. I cannot get a samba 4.2.2
fileserver to work with a samba 4.2.2 PDC as a domain member.
My scenario:
Samba 3 network. PDC and fileserver where Samba 3.6.25. LDAP backend.
We can't move to AD right now so I wanted to move to the current 4.2.2
at least to do this step but to
