Windows 10 administrative templates /central store with Samba
Viktor, thanks again! Now that I did this (added the Win10 1511 ADMX files to the central store), I probably will have to recreate the policies that will be applied to Win10 machines, right? I have already added a Win10 machine to a domain, where only Win7 clients were joined before that. I have managed this domain from Win7 only, so far. Therefore I believe that e.g. the Windows Update policy is not fit for

Win7 vs. Win10 GPO Editing
Hi, I have a problem with GPO editing. I have some GPO first created with RSAT and GPO editor on Win 7 x64. I have modified recently this object with RSAT and GPO editor on Win 10 x64 . If I try to edit the GPO back to Win7 I got the following error (in french): La ressource ? $(string.SiteDiscoveryEnableWMI) ? r?f?renc?e dans l?attribut displayName est introuvable. Fichier

Hi Ole, Unless you want to add functionality that is new since 1511, I don't think that's necessary. The main benefit you have with the central store is that you now *can edit* GPOs with Win10-only-rules also on non-Win10-computers. It does not, however, affect how the client implements the GPO. Hi Ole, I've been using Samba with Win10 clients for a while now, so I'm happy to share some of my findings. See comments inline. Viktor, reading your original post again, I find that the "Primary Domain Suffix" there is given as "SAMDOM.COM" while you claim that your domain name actually has the form of "samdom.example.com". Is this a typo, or does this actually differ? I am asking, because you can (at least in Win7) - in the system properties right where you give the domain name for the

Win Clients and DNS
I have an AD with 1 Samba DC and 5 Windows 10 clients. The DC and the clients all have a fixed IPv4 address. In the windows event viewer, I constantly see the following warning: Event 8019, DNS Client Events ------------------------------------------ The system failed to register host (A or AAA) resource records (RRs) for network adapter with settings: Adapter Name: {someGUID} Host Name:

Permission Issues with GPO
I was experiencing problems with Group Policy Objects. The Windows Event Viewer spits out so many different errors, most of them less than helpful, so Iwas seeking help here with some of those messages. In the end, and after many hours and even days of researching this problem, I seem to have pin-pointed the main issue to some simple permission irregularities that I don't know how to

Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).
So only for old NT4 style PDC - BDC environment one needs poledit. While AD's (with virtual pdc role servers) can use the MMC.? We got a pure Samba AD environment and thus it should work. Be it that we might not have all mmc templates (not yet checked that). Thanks Viktor. -----Original message----- From: Viktor Trojanovic?<viktor at troja.ch> Sent: Wednesday 21st October 2020
