net ads join disable dns update
We have a couple oracle RAC servers that we install samba/winbind on. These servers require multiple NIC's / IP's.
The problem is when we do "net ads join" it updates windows DNS and really screws us up because seven IP's get put into DNS, all tied to the same host, including the interconnect IP's which oracle insists needs to be 169.254.x.x addresses. Because of the

net ads join hangs forever
I am trying to join my Linux workstation to my ADS domain.
Unfortunately, I'm not having much success. net ads join hangs forever
(or at least for more than 12 hours) when run. The computer account is
created in the domain, but the process never completes. tdbdump
secrets.tdb shows no results, and wbinfo shows users and groups from the
trusted domains but not from the domain I am trying to

net ads join - DNS Update failed !
Hi,
it seems that all is working perfectly, but if start an "net ads join" i
get the message "DNS Update failed !" .
What is the consequence if i dont care about this message ? Is the Samba
Server (ADS member) only not registered in the ADS DNS tree ?

net ads join DNS update
Hello,
I'm just wondering if there is a way to disable the DNS update when doing
"net ads join". Right now is killing us because the servers have private
IPs and its updating our main AD server with those IPs and all the
interfaces (adding like 10 or 20 records for the same machine different
private IPs). After a few minutes were not able to connect to the server
anymore :-)

Can I use net ads join without DNS
Hi Samba people
I'm trying to join a Solari10 server using Samba Version 3.0.33 server
to an ADS. But the ADS is not in DNS.
I thought I could get round this by putting the ADS IP in the servers
local hosts file, and telling the krb5.conf not to use dns but it
doesn't seem to work.
1. Can it be done ?
2. If it can how ?
Output of my net join ads, still seems to be using DNS

net ads join hangs forever
Hi Aaron,
we've just identified this problem and thought you may be interested if you haven't resolved
this already. The bind is failing because the admin account being used to join the domain is a
member of too many groups (waiting to hear from M$ what constitutes too many) and as a result the
Kerberos TGT is too large and the kpasswd service on the M$ DC just ignores the change

net ads join requires full domain admin account?
Problem: I have an account that allows me to join an AD domain, this works
fine from any win box. However it fails with "ads_add_machine_acct
(client_name): Insufficient access" when I do a net ads join from a linux
box. To get samba to join the domain, I have to use an account with full
domain admin privs. (ie net ads join -Ufull_domain_admin)
Is this expected behavior?

net ads join fails with pre-created machine accounts
Hi folks,
we have recently tried to join several FreeBSD machines to your forest where the machine accounts where pre-created by the core admin team. We did as root:
# kinit 'machine-name$'
# net ads join ...
Unfortunately, it failed with an error that several attributes cannot be set which are available to domain admins only. It ultimately means that one cannot use pre-created

can you automatically add a DNS entry when using "net" to join AD
I looked through the net man page and googled with no luck...I was
wondering if it is possible to have a DNS entry created for the
machine I add using "net ads join" without me having to manually add
it to the DNS.

net ads join -U syntax
Hello,
I try to join a Samba 3.2 server on RHEL 4 to AD using
net ads join -d 2 -U myaccount@DOMAIN.COM
It seems that the net utility does not 'like' a full qualified userid
any longer. I was able to join using samba v3.09 and v3.025 but with
3.2.8 I'm only able to join submitting a plain userid (without @domain
appended), i.e.
net ads join -d 2 -U myaccount
When joining using

net join ads gives segmentation fault
Hi,
We have been working with samba 3.0.4 and MIT 1.3.6 on SUSE SLES 8 (SP3)
for some time. We use security=ads and our samba is joined to the W2K3
domain.
We use this with winbind to use the authentication from w2k3 instead of
local users (telnet, squid, samba and via smbauth also apache).
When preparing a new server with suse SLES 9 and heimdal 0.6.1 RC3 (suses
package) we started running

"DNS update failed" during ads join
I received the warning "DNS updated failed!" during net join. Is this
an important warning? Will there be problems?
Immediately after the join, clients using smbclient were able to
authenticate and access shares on this server - even though "net ads
testjoin" complained about kerberos problems.

Join to AD does not persist reboot, requires "net ads join"
Hi,
I'm using samba 3.6.3 on ubuntu 12.04. I'm using samba and winbind so
that I can authenticate users via ntml_auth.
After configuring my smb.conf I join to the domain:
net ads join -U Administrator
And everything works fine, calls to ntlm_auth work as expected.
However, upon rebooting the server, I can't successfully use ntlm_auth

'net ads join' Segmentation fault for one ADS tree but not another?!
The cmd 'net ads join -U username' dies with 'Segmentation fault' for
our PROD ADS environment, however works fine in our DEV ADS environment!
The only [Linux] configuration change between the two environments is
update SAMBA and Kerberos config to read 'ADS' vs 'ADSDEV' and change
the domain controller FQDN.
The /var/kerberos/krb5kdc directory, samba/secrets.tdb
