Functionality of Nmbd at Active Directory mode of Samba4 !
As I know runnig of Nmbd at Acitve Directory mode is quite unofficial now (but possible) . I will not ask why it is not reccomded to run Nmbd within Samba4 started at AD mode. But if somebody can tell, you are wellcome. But when nmb code implementation is planned to AD part ? That is when nmb functionnality adding to Samba4 acting as AD is planned ? To bring possibiity to use full-forced

If my messages seems somehow unreadable - I sent it from Gmail Web UI. mathias dufresne, read my 2 or 3 last messages. But I see useless of more discussion at atll. If you want to combine your efforts to help with

Functionality of Nmbd at Active Directory mode of Samba4 !
P. p. S.: Oh, I have remember. Quite important thing. There are some soft where is not address line where you can put \\server\folder address to access or you can not get access resource via \\server\folder, it only via computer list. For example: Far. By typing \\server - there is error. Only: Alt+F1/F2, network, MS Windows Network, GroupName, CompName. If it is visible - Samba4 with Nmbd, it is

Do I need two instances of Samba on the same machine (3rd request) ?
I have two subnets S1 and S2 and only one machine running samba, but this machine is connected to both subnets, ahs one interface in each subnet and is acting as a router. I want to have a workgroup that spans the two subnets, so any machine in subnet S1 should see all the machines regardless of their subnet when doing browsing. I know that to do this I need: -One LMB in each subnet using Samba.

Cross Subnet Browsing.
hi, I need a hand setting up cross subnet browsing. Does anyone have some good news group postings, or a HOWTO? I have 2 samba servers, and 2 subnets. Each servers sits on it's own domain/workgroup. I think this should be much simpler than it is, and perhaps I am just missing one or two settings. Of the 2 servers: A, B I would like 'A' to do any serving or hold any

cross-subnet browsing problems
I'm trying to set up cross-subnet browsing using Samba on a Linux box and a Sparc UltraEnterprise with Win95 and NT Workstation clients. I'm using the Sparc as the domain master and also as the WINS server on the 108 subnet. The Linux box is the local master on the 46 subnet. Both are running Samba 1.9.17alpha4. I can see the conversation between the two samba servers and the browse

subnet browsing
we have samba [mostly] working in a VPN application connecting two Mandrake subnets using SSH. if all machines define the same workgroup name, and we define a single domain master browser, (with the other subnet defined as a preferred, local, master browser,) and a single WINS server, after a little while, all shares are visible to all WIN9x machines. this samba stuff is fantastic! 2 questions:

Netbios over more then one protocol
Hi, i'm reading: samba-3.0.20a/docs/htmldocs/Samba3-HOWTO/NetworkBrowsing.html#id2564441 ... The election process is /fought out, so to speak/ over every NetBIOS network interface. In the case of a Windows 9x/Me machine that has both TCP/IP and IPX installed and has NetBIOS enabled over both protocols, the election will be decided over both protocols. As often happens, if the Windows 9x/Me

cross-subnet browsing
I have 2 subnets. Subnet 1 has an NT WINS server. Subnet 2 has a Samba server acting as domain master browser and local master browser for a workgroup. If I view the network neighborhood from a Win 95 PC on Subnet 1 (call it PC_A), I can see all the hosts in the workgroup on both subnets. If I view the network neighborhood from a Win 95 PC on Subnet 2 (call it PC_B), I cannot see PC_A. I

Servers disappear from Network neighborhood
I am using Samba-PDC-LDAP with samba-3.0.20b-1. On my file servers I am using samba-3.0.10-1.4. I'm not sure exactly what is happening but every couple of weeks the file servers disappear form network neighborhood. I checked browstat on my Windows system and it points to my PDC as the master browser and I checked the wins.dat file on my PDC and the systems were there. I did not check

No network neighborhood
Recently, we made a switch from 1.9.18 to 2.0.3. Under 1.9.18, we had local master turned off to prevent a browser election war. However, under some network configurations, (where the system was alone on a Workgroup), the system would, quite appropriately, not appear in the network neighborhood. So for 2.0.3 we changed the config file to allow election participation (local master = yes).

Understanding the role of DMB/LMB on a net that has a WINS server
If I have a client that wants to enumerate and access shares on a subnet, and that client knows the IP of the WINS server, is there any need for the client to use the "browsing" services of a DMB or LMB? What is the order of operations of the client? Here is what I imagine to be the case: 1. client asks LMB for a list of all available shares 2. LMB sends client the list of all known
