samba430-jessie script question
All software development progresses so quickly that anyone's script may not be current. Even a script I may have written. And that is the overall challenge with scripts, in general. We users become dependent on scripts. And we users need the learn independence. I have been learning what scripts do and how scripts do what they do. I was wanting to install 4.3.1 on Debian8 and see if I

samba430-jessie script question
Hi bob, I suggest, you stick on 4.3.0, if you use my script. I dont advice to compile yourself, but thats what you want. You can use an unmodified packages also, but you need 2 or 3 packages from debian sid/experimental To keep is all safe do the following. Create an preferences file so you can ping the experimental repo. cat << EOF >> /etc/apt/preferences.d/experimental-samba

bug 11573
I am building a 64bit machine for a DC (CentOS 7) following the instructions on the Samba wiki. Installed Samba 4.3.1.tar.gz and when I try to provision the domain I get: ERROR(ldb): uncaught exception - operations error at ../source4/dsdb/samdb/ldb_modules/password_hash.c:2241 Search the string and it is bug 11573 (assigned to Andrew.) I realize that he will work on it when he gets time

sernet samba4 on Ubuntu
Yes, it did install a bunch of packages from the sernet site. So far all the tests are failing. Seems that Sernet put samba under slightly different directories so I am struggling with testing. I was hoping there was some documentation on sernet site that I was having trouble finding, obviously not. Give me some time. It is just different again (from CentOS howto I had used in the past.) I

Bind version requirements
I read on the wiki page "BIND9_DLZ_DNS_Back_End" that the bind version supported by the Samba version 4.5.2 is Bind 9.11? Ubuntu 16.04.1LTS repo offers Bind9.10.3 and Debian Jessie is Bind9.9.5. Currently running Samba 4.5.0 (from source) on Ubuntu 16.04.1LTS. Does this suggestion mean I am limited to Samba version 4.5.1 until Ubuntu upgrades the bind9 version? I have been

Did, as su "apt-get install sernet-samba-ad" (after adding source to repositories.) (Have a test setup on CentOS 6.6 running but it is Samba 4.3.0 ** from git. Would prefer Samba version not so new as 4.3.0 so, want to change to Ubuntu.) --- ------------------------- Bob Wooden of Donelson Trophy 615.885.2846 (main) www.donelsontrophy.com [1] "Everyone deserves an

sernet samba4 on Ubuntu
I am attempting to install EnterpriseSamba (Sernet) on a Ubuntu 14.04.1LTS server. I finding it a challenge to determine the proper installation and configuration procedures with sernet-samba. There are no (at least I cannot find them) how-to's or instructions or readme on the sernet download website. Any ideas where to find such or guidance? (I post this here because I seem to remember

getting permissions denied on home folders
I have a fresh Debian based Samba server and Member server setup. I have configured profiles and they appear to be saving properly to the member server. When I attempt to adjust file permissions (as instructed by the Sambawiki page "Samba & Windows Profiles") I am getting "Access Denied" complaints. These I believe (I could be wrong) relate to the file permissions
