Samba Team encourages supporting the Software Freedom Conservancy
For a number of years now, the Samba Team has been a member of the
Software Freedom Conservancy. They handle quite a bit of administration
for our project as well as pursuing GPL compliance. If you'd like to
see more about what they do, please check: https://sfconservancy.org/about/
We urge you to support the Conservancy. Here is a message from our own

Software Freedom Conservancy creates Supporters program.
Apologies if this is a little off-topic,
but the Software Freedom Conservancy (which
is the legal umberella organization for
the Samba Project and may other Free Software
projects such as Wine) just announced their
"Supporters" program:

Please check it out, and if you're

Forming a "Project Leadership Committee"
Xapian is in the process of joining the Software Freedom Conservancy
(https://sfconservancy.org/), but one thing we need to sort out before
we can finalise this is some sort of more formal project leadership
structure.
James Aylett and I have discussed this with Bradley Kuhn from
Conservancy, and we think the most appropriate model currently would be
a small group of at least 3 (to avoid deadlock

sieve vacation: write to the .lda-dupes database without generating a vacation response.
I'm using Dovecot's sieve extensions quite happily, they are very good!
Thanks for all who worked on them. I have a question that maybe is
appropriate for a sieve-specific discussion list, so if there is one I
should post to instead, please let me know:
I've poked through the sieve vacation RFC and all the documentation I
can find and I cannot figure out how to do this. It's

Gluster's proposal to adopt GPL cure enforcement
Hi all,
Following the lines of Red Hat's announcement for commitment for better
open-source model, along with many other companies (lead by
Facebook/Google/IBM) [1], Gluster project is also proposing to have the
COMMITMENT statement in its project.
While we discuss about the same here, a RFC patch is submitted to review.

R on the Cydia Store
In the event that a lawyer is consulted, I would suggest finding one
with real experience in open source law. In my experience, even most
intellectual property or software attorneys have little to no experience
with open source law, and I've heard the most dreadful and incorrect
utterances from them on the topic of open source licenses.
Duncan is correct that parts of R may be

GPL violation by Synology
Synology ( https://www.synology.com/en-global ) is one of best selling
brands of consumer/prosumer/SMB NASes, with revenue estimated to be in
the $100M+ range.
Several of their NAS backup options use rsync either explicitly or
under the hood (NAS-to-Remote-NAS backup, Shared-Folder-Sync), and
they run the rsync daemon (under File Services). rsync is an integral
part of their solution.
They use a

Disabling driver signature enforcement for Windows DomUs
Hi all,
After loading the GplPV drivers for Windows Server 2008, I wanted to
get rid of the annoying F8 option when rebooting each time. I looked
at Ready Driver Plus, which seemed to work, but was only a
workaround. It also seemed to kill my terminal connection from Dom0.
After some research, I found another way:

Centos 6.5 - Fping - SE Linux - Missing type enforcement (TE) allow rule
Hi gents,
I seem to have a small issue with fping and Observium(a monitoring
solution). The particular VPS I'm using does have SELinux enabled and it
seems to be causing issues when the httpd process is attempting to use
Fping?
Here is what I know so far :
Output from "audit2why -a" :

Password enforcement problem with OpenSSH on AIX.
Hello,
I've encountered a password enforcement problem with OpenSSH on AIX. In
AIX, when the user contains the flags = ADMCHG in the
/etc/security/passwd file, the user is forced to change the password at
next login. It works for telnet but it does not work under the OpenSSH
v3.4 version. Based on my research, it appears this issue is resolved
with OpenSSH v3.8p1. Can anyone confirm?

Dovecot and quota enforcement - only reporting?
I'm currently setting up postfix and dovecot with virtual users
(mysql), imap, and quotas. I'm setting the quotas using mysql.
I have quotas working correctly, and I can telnet into the imap
server, and submit
. getquotaroot inbox
and get back valid quota information. I get a maildirsize file in the
Maildir directory. Very cool.
When I delete mail and expunge it, the quota updates.

Primary Keys enforcement vanishes in test database
I use this naming convention for primary keys:
ActiveRecord::Base.primary_key_prefix_type
= :table_name_with_underscore
I generate the MySQL test database: rake db:test:prepare, and although
the column is there there is no primary key enforcement/index and no
autoincrement (so activerecord saves fail). Is this a bug? What is
the best workaround?
