Try this:
1. Make sure your domain groups and users are recognized on the member server.
At the very least,
$ getent passwd

Still can't figure out ACL issues
Here's a new clue; When I attempt to add a computer with Samba-tool, it
seems to work fine, but listusers still shows no members in the
Computers group.

Still can't figure out ACL issues
Yah, jimc again.
I still cannot figure out what is wrong with my dc. The problem began
with being unable to log on from Windows boxes after a power hit.
The initial symptoms were:
1) When I log in on a Windows machine, with an account that should have
administrator permissions, I don't have said admin rights.
2) When I attempt to launch the Windows remote server tools, I can

Samba doesn't use ACLs at all, it is just a bridge

Unable to access directories after Samba upgrade
Greetings, All!
I have an extremely strange issue.
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 and after upgrading Samba to
4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.6 I'm unable to access third level of
subdirectories on shares.
ACLs are even on both 2nd and 3rd levels, but I get access denied no matter
what I do.

[bug?] idmap.ldb xidNumber attributes overlap with existing users'/groups' uidNumber/gidNumber
Greetings, All!
I've discovered a nasty mismatch in my recently upgraded domain.
It seems that a number of builtin groups have mappings in idmap.ldb that
overlap with posixAccount mappings in the sam.ldb.
Namely,
# file: var/lib/samba/sysvol/ads.example.com/scripts/
# owner: root
# group: 544
user::rwx
user:root:rwx
group::rwx
group:544:rwx

group:30001:rwx

smbxcals
HI ,
We have come up with a utility called smbxcals which is derived from
smbcals, where we no need to establish the client connection to perform
ACLs operations, by just giving the absolute path as a paratmeter can list
and set ACLs as below,
# smbxcacls /root/FOO/
REVISION:1
CONTROL:0x8404
OWNER:DEMOSP\Administrator
GROUP:DEMOSP\Domain Users
ACL:BUILTIN\Administrators:ALLOWED/OI|CI|I/FULL

LDAP, checkpwnam and PDC
Hiya,
I'm trying to set up a Samba PDC with an LDAP backend.
I experienced problems joining machines to domains, the machine account
was created, but Windows said user name cannot be found.
I resolved this by adding ldap to /etc/nsswitch.conf, but this has the
side effect of allowing ldap users to login to the server via SSH.
Whilst I can understand the need for LDAP users to be accessible

Yes, I did an fsck from a boot dvd. It came up clean.
I did a recursive setfacal to set all acls to default.

How do I disable kerberos?
HI.
I have been told that kerberos cannot be running while samba4 is. How do
I do this? I seem to have missed this on the how-to and system requirements.
I have commented out every entry in /etc/services that seems even
remotely kerberosish. I still get errors on kinit and host (from the
how-to).
I have googled until my computers are laughing at me and have posted on
every forum I can find.

net rpc rights grant on a standalone server
I have a standalone samba server. I want to configure it so that the
"admins" local unix group has the ability to view / close open files
through compmgmt.msc. I assume that what I need to do is run "net rpc
rights grant [username] SeDiskOperatorPrivilege".
Is this the correct privilege? Can these commands be run on a standalone
server? What is the proper syntax for granting

Moving server to new box
Hi!
I wish to move my Samba 4 server to a new box. Since the old one is pata
and the new one is sata, I cannot simply swap disks.
What is the best way to transfer my server without loosing configuration
files?
Thanks

RPC server unavailable?
I have a Samba 4.1.6 up and running(?)
When I try to join the AD, I get 'RPC server is unabailable.'
This also happens when I try the Microsoft Remote Administration tools,
I get the same issue.
The samba, smbd, and auth logs don't seem to provide the answer I need,
but that may only mean I can't see it.
The workgroup server works fine.
I have spent hours online and in the samba

Winbind idmap partially fails to load attributes with 4.6.7 (Ubuntu 17.10)
Greetings, All!
I'm stumbled upon an event I can't understand. Rolled out a new Ubuntu 17.10
box in preparation for eventual 18.04 launch and… it just does not fly.
Here's a brief and apparent summary of the problem:
$ smbd -V; getent passwd anrdaemon

Error Starting Samba
I got a copy of the latest samba build from the samba site, v4.1.11. I compiled and installed it with the default options on OpenIndiana 151.1.8. I previously had samba installed from the openindiana repository but this stopped working after my windows folks made security changes to AD. I suspect the older version of samba in the repo 3.5.21-0.151.1.8 lacks certain functionality to enable it to

Probably not related, but I had an issue with kerberos and it turns out
I had the wrong host name for 127.0.0.1 in /etc/hosts
