Problem with Active Directory authentication
The problem that I am now facing is the fact there is no NIS domain that can be selected from the dropdown menu,
which, in turn, prevents the login shell from being modified.

Fileserver and other questions
Good evening,
I have a Windows 2003 Server setup as workgroup with one big share
that I want to replace it with Samba.
1- Is it possible to have shares per department? Let's say: a share for
Sales users, a share for Administration users and so on, so that files
and folders are only visible for each group. If so, how can I accomplish
this? Also, is it possible to give read/write

restoring roaming profiles
I'm running Version 4.1.17-Debian as a DC on a Debian/Jessie AMD64 system.
After rebuilding a domain with slightly different settings, roaming
profiles stopped working.
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Implementing_roaming_profiles contains
a suggestion (see Troubleshooting roaming profiles) that gets them
working again - deleting the user subkey from

Problem with Active Directory authentication
Hello --
The version of Samba that I am running on the server is the 4.3.9 Ubuntu package.
To that end, I reconfigured the smb.conf file to reflect the entries listed in your e-mail.
I added the syntax: default shell = /bin/bash to the smb.conf file, and restarted the samba and winbind daemons.
Unfortunately, the getent passwd command indicated the /bin/false shell was still the default.

classicupgrade and shares and printers and logins
Does classicupgrade copy over the smb.conf definitions for shares,
printers, and logins?
I don't see any shares in the new smb.conf (but they were in an include
in my old setup)
netlogon shows where I should put the scripts, but does not have my
parameters:
logon drive = H:
logon script = %U.cmd
perhaps because those were PDC parameters?
Printers is really not important, but I should

idmaps, again
Today a topic popped up again, which I already wrote about in this
thread a while ago:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/linux.samba/w2B-0bRy9_0
Creating new users via ADUC under Windows10 still gives us users with
missing attributes like uidNumber etc
As far as I understand, this simply doesn't work with Win10, related to

How to learn abut what is in the samba ldap directory
I once upon a time worked with DAP and watched LDAP being created as
something that actually could work...
Showing my age here.
What little I have done with LDAP has been very clearly delineated so
that I knew what was being done. Here, with Samba, and I guess
actually, it is AD, I have not found that. Yet. But there are always
tools.
So I am looking at: phpLDAPadmin
