Best strategy to move/upgrade Samba 3 PDC to new Samba 4 server

It's a good question, and I am struggling with it too. My network is about twice as large as yours, but still small by most standards. We have samba 3.6 sernet packages on a CentOS 5 server. Clearly it would be pretty

[LLVMdev] Garbage Collection Project
A while back there was a discussion thread about whether an accurate, concurrent garbage collector could be "generic" in the sense of being able to support multiple different languages efficiently. After having done some work on this, I now believe that this is the case - using C++ policy-based design principles, you can create a set of modules that represent different aspects of

Best way to upgrade domain from control by 2.2.5 PDC to control by 3.0.20b PDC
Hi Folks- I'll start by saying thanks to all the people who have made samba and shared it as open source software. Samba is truly an amazing suite of software. I have a small domain of less than 10 clients which is currently being controlled with a Samba 2.2.5 PDC running on a Compaq x86 server with a very old Suse Linux 8.1 OS. Since setting up this Compaq server, my preferred

central PDC + remote BDCs: LDAP strategy, my lack of comprehension
Hello, I am trying to figure out how to implement a samba domain in a number of remote offices around the world with partly bad and often interrupted WAN connections/VPNs. The goal is to administer the directory from the central data center. My obvious choice would be to set up a central server with SAMBA+OpenLDAP+smbldap-tools and in each remote office a SAMBA server with OpenLDAP as a

NT4 PDC+2BDCs upgrade to Samba 3
Hi. I'm evaluating the possibility of migrating my network from NT4 to Samba 3. I have a PDC on my main office running WINS, a BDC on a branch office 200Km away also running WINS, and another BDC on a branch office 450Km away also running WINS. I have the following constraints: -I must have a BDC on each branch office, and PDC on my main office. -I must have a WINS server each office. -I

Problems with an NT4 BDC and Samba PDC
Hello, I have a little problem with samaba... well... with windows nt, samba works fine. I'll try to explain it: My net has 2 servers with NT4, a pdc and a bdc. Well, my intentions is to eliminate de NT4 PDC and put a Samba PDC. So I made the next steps: 1-. In BDC, Administrative Tools - Server Administrators (i think) and there i select the BDC and click in the menu to "Eliminate

Can Samba Be a Backup Domain Controller to an NT4 PDC?
Hello people, taken from http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/samba-bdc.html#minim-bdc > Can Samba Be a Backup Domain Controller to an NT4 PDC? > > No. The native NT4 SAM replication protocols have not yet been fully implemented. > > Can I get the benefits of a BDC with Samba? Yes, but only to a Samba PDC.The main reason for implementing a BDC is

Samba 4 BDC to Windows 2008 PDC
Hello folks, The documentation for running Samba as a BDC clearly states that it is not operational with a Windows PDC [1], but this documentation covers Samba-3 and it was suggested in IRC by scooby2 that this functionality is now suported in Samba 4. Can anyone else confirm this? Should I use the documentation for Smaba BDC or is there more current documentation for this functionality?

wbinfo / NT4 PDC
I'm having a really strange problem with winbind and my NT4 PDC. The PDC was here before I started working here, so I'm not sure what all has been done to it. Here's the layout: * NT4 PDC (no BDC)- Up to date with all service packs and hotfixes. Running Cyberwall-Plus firewall. * RHL 7.2 (2.4.9-31custom) with Samba 2.2.4 (compiled from src). I was able to join the domain. The

migration of PDC tdbsam backend to BDC - failed to fetch domain database
Hello According to NT4 Migration Using tdbsam Backend http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html#id2604610 I would like to transfer PDC settings (users, groups sids) to BDC and later make from BDC PDC machine. I have Fedora Core 7 PDC(hostname serwer) and Centos 5.4 BDC (hostname serwer2) both on tdbsam backends. I have copied smb.conf, passwd, group, shadow, secrets.tdb files

Samba LDAP PDC, BDC + Shared Interdomain Trust secret
Hi there, I have a Samba PDC and BDC migrated from NT4 using ldapsam with an interdomain trust to a 2k3 domain. The trust is established both ways and was made from the pdc. Using samba 3.0.14a-sernet on Suse 9.1 The trust is working. I can pull users from the trusted domain and apply them to acls on my samba DMS. Winbind adds the idmap entry correctly. What is not working, is authentication from

RE : Samba as a PDC / Windows NT 4 SP6a as a BDC
Are you sure of that ? I thought it was possible... If it is not, I've got another slightly off topic question : how to I demote my former Windows NT PDC (that is now a BDC) to a normal Windows NT server, so that I have no problem with it ? Thanks in advance. -------- Message d'origine-------- De: Umberto Zanatta [mailto:uzanatta@provincia.treviso.it] Date: lun. 26/07/2004 14:09

Samba PDC/Windows BDC
I have a RH 7.2 PDC which uses DHCP for 2 machines on the network. My Win9x machine as a client/BDC just in case and uses a static IP. If the PDC goes down. I have to put in or take out the PDC's gateway IP and was wondering if there was a way to get ONLY the info I need from DHCP to the Win machine. To attempt to clarify, when the PDC is up, it will assign its gateway IP to the BDC (since it

With a Samba 3 PDC, can I promote a Samba BDC to become new PDC?
I'm helping out a small office upgrade their NT 4 PDC to Samba. It's a small office of 6 people, so tdbsam is being used. They keep having tape backup issues and other problems, so one of the reasons for the Samba migration is to allow me to SSH into their box and remotely administer it from home on evenings/weekends. Currently I'm testing the move using two dummy machines, and

Samba PDC windoze BDC
Hi, During my migration to samba, I had kind of assumed that I could run Samba as a PDC and my windoze server as a BDC to ease the migration path a little and still keep the same domain. I was going to use samba 2.2.5 on the PDC and NT4 sp6 on the BDC. After reading quite a bit, it looks as though this doesn't work? Is there a way to make it work? Does Samba 3 handle this? Is Samba 3

PDC appears to be BDC in server manager
Hi all I'm a relative newcomer to samba, having a few problems with what I thought would be a fairly straightforward migration from an NT4 to a Samba PDC. Summary of what I've done so far: * Set up samba on a second PC and configured it as BDC. * VAMPIREd all of the accounts across to the BDC. * Shut down original NT PDC, installed Linux + Samba on same hardware. * Promoted second PC to
