Bind flat file support
Hi Robert, It doesn't break compatibility with MS, unless you're talking about the RSAT DNS tool, which is a lot more cumbersome than a text editor anyway and it's pretty much assumed that if you're using Samba you're a Linux sysadmin, so not being able to use the RSAT DNS tool should not be a problem. I haven't read Mark Andrew's comment, not being on the Bind

Samba 4 Bind DNS on CentOS 7
Hi Brady, I realise that but the only named.conf to be found on the system is my newly created /etc/named.conf. Either something screwed up when installing the Sernet RPMs, which is really pretty unlikely given that everything else is working, or the file was not included in the package. regards, John On 21/08/15 10:16, Brady, Mike wrote: > On 2015-08-21 11:18, John Gardeniers wrote:

I am looking at: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/DNS_administration I am using bind 9.9 on all my DNS servers. To set up secondarying my Samba DNS zones to my other Bind servers. I come across the following: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9634 Is it possible to transfer the DLZ zones now as dates on this bug are 2 years old?

Maybe working - Re: BIND DLZ zone transfers
Hi Robert, yes it does work. But the DLZ bind will not notify any slaves, when the repository changes. This can be painful, especially for longer TTL values. Regards, - lars. Samba doesn't log DNS queries. Patches are welcome. :-) Regards, Marc

Internal DNS and recursion
On the Samba wiki at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_Internal_DNS there is the following: If you have chosen the internal DNS as backend for your environment, there are only two options that can be added to your smb.conf, to control the behaviour of DNS at this point: # Don't allow any updates | allow unsigned updates | only allow signed updates allow dns updates = False |

DNS issues after FSMO seize
SOA means "this DNS se'rver can modify the zone". Using Bind-DLZ all DNS servers can modify the AD zones, they all reply "I am the SOA" when you ask them about SOA for AD zones. Using Internal DNS I expect all DNS servers can modify the AD zones also (that's internal stuff) but even if they can modify the AD zone locally that's is not the process chosen by Samba

ah yes.. that are the "limitation", but know limitations ( for us ) Rowland, this is something to add on the wiki. Bind on non-DC host (formerly: bind 9.11.b2 with samba 4.4.5)
oki doki. Thank you for precision. That kind of limitation should be added to the wiki as I would have already tried to move Bind to a non-DC host if I was able to find to to do that. And if I thought about that, some have thought about that before me. With easy virtualisation as we have now, with the idea to separate task one different systems to lower risk endured by each system, it seems to me

Function some()
Dear R-devel list members, Probably not an opportune time for this, given the immanent release of 2.0.0, but I was just reminded (while preparing a lecture) of a function that I find useful and that I though might be a candidate for the utils package: The function, which I call some(), behaves like head() and tail(), from which it is adapted, except that it samples from an object (e.g., rows of a
