Classicupgrade failure
Hello. I've still got a couple of NT domains and I'd like to upgrade them to AD. In these days I had a chance to try to migrate one of them, but I ran into troubles and had to go back. I don't know when I'll have the chance to try again (probably not before some months), but I need to understand what went wrong before that. The starting situation: Samba 4.8 running as AD

samba-tool domain classicupgrade fails to import users or groups from NT domain
I am attempting to migrate a Slackware server with Samba 4.12.3 from an NT style domain to AD. I have done this about 7-8 times on other servers in the past following the instructions on Samba's wiki. This time however, the upgrade process is failing completely to import any users or groups from the NT domain. I have enclosed below the output of the classicupgrade command - I can't

samba-tool classicupgrade throws uncaught exception
I have a new server running CentOS 6.4 x64, which will serve as our new Samba4 server. It is set up in a test environment, and I've copied over the tdb files and the smb.conf file from our samba3 server (Same OS and version). I'm trying to do an in-place upgrade on the copied files, but keep hitting an assert / uncaught exception during the upgrade: # /usr/local/samba/bin/samba-tool

Progress on dns_dlz. At least I got things loading. Moving a computer from a down domain to a new domain
I had been running a samba server, the AMAHI F12 distro, that has samba 3.4.9. It ran well enough, but I was planning on replacing it with ClearOS. Well monday night I lost my server harddrive, so now it is crunch time to update/upgrade. I think I have ClearOS configured properly, it is running samba 3.6.10 (Redhat 6.4 based). So far I have tried to add two of my XP systems to the new

User and Group management from Linux plus roaming profiles
Right now, RSAT seems not to be an option for me, as the only Win systems here are XP... None of my PDC users were brought over with classicupdate. Perhaps becuase my users are LINUX user accounts? And the home directories map to /home/user ? So I would think I need to start adding users and put them into groups. How? And I am reading:

error when samba-tool domain classicupgrade
When you try to upgrade on a test stand, an error occurs. I do not understand that you need to add ldap, or improve migration script? Before that I tried to version 4.1.7, but the error was the sam root at dc1:~/smb_old# samba --version Version 4.2.2-SerNet-Ubuntu-7.trusty I also modified the file --- ./upgrade.py 2014-10-01 00:00:00.000000000 +0600 +++

Maybe working - Re: BIND DLZ zone transfers
Hi Robert, yes it does work. But the DLZ bind will not notify any slaves, when the repository changes. This can be painful, especially for longer TTL values. Regards, - lars. Centos7 Cant start vncserver
OK, first time configuring vncserver on Centos7. I have read through a bunch of old messages here on vncserver and thought I had it. Obviously not. 1) cp /usr/lib/systemd/system/vncserver at .service /etc/systemd/system/vncserver at .service 2) vi /etc/systemd/system/vncserver at .service I changed <USER> in both places to root 3) systemctl daemon-reload 4) systemctl

More on bind_dlz - documentation I have not found
In the shower this morning, I realized that samba's dlz is through its ldap interface, probably through dhcp. :) All of that work researching how to set up a dlz database for naught. This is NOT documented in either: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/DNS or https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configure_BIND_as_backend_for_Samba_AD I have not yet checked any ldap documentation on the wiki to
