Expected DNS records for a new ADC?
I have added a 2008R2 server as an ADC to a domain (S4 4.5.3);  and the instructions say to verify the DNS records...  what DNS records does one expect to find?  I think I know but looking in DNS it does not appear the server created any DNS records relating to being a DC. No GUID CNAME in _msdcs.micore.us, no SRV records in Default-First- Site-Name._tcp,... I have not yet rebooted the server

Samba AD and adding a Windows 2008R2 DC
Hi, we now have an old Windows NT4.0 domain served by Samba 4.2.x (using Samba and LDAP) and want to move to Windows AD. The reason we need to do that is because of the clients (Windows 10 and MacOS) and because of a third party device which does not want to talk to Samba AD (Isilon OneFS). I did a 'classicupgrade' to Samba AD from our Samba/LDAP config and then I use this guide :

Problems adding DC to Samba 4.1.6 AD
I inherited an AD "domain" which is running Ubuntu 14.04, with Samba 4.1.6 with "built-in" AD-DNS. The network has only one AD server, which runs on KVM as a guest - (convenient so I can make backups and test stuff without breaking my network. We have around 500 users on the system, and I'm trying to upgrade to 16.04 and a more current version of Samba without making all

Samba migration to AD
Not really answering your question, but as context: For a period of time, newer windows versions refused to join to Samba, as they used a WMI method (which we don't support, being DCOM) to work out what version we were. We told MS, and they fixed that, which was nice of them. Since then, we have also worked around the issue by being able to increase our functional level preparation (which

Replication problems in Samba 4.1.18
Dear all, I have joined samba 4.1.18 (FreeBSD 9.1) to an Active Directory domain as an active directory domain controller. The domain has two other Windows Server 2008 R2 DCs. Both windows and samba complain about replication problems. Windows reports that replication from Windows DCs to Samba completes successfully, but replication from Samba to Windows fails with error "The replication

win2008r2 update on centos 6 host made system unbootable
Hi, today we ran into a strange problem: When performing a regular Windows 2008r2 update apparently among other things the following was installed: "SUSE - Storage Controller - SUSE Block Driver for Windows" Previously the disk drive was using the Red Hat virtio drivers which worked just fine but after the reboot after the update I just get a blue screen indicating that Windows cannot

Joining a Windows Server 2008 R2 to existing Samba4 domain
Hi all, A bit of back story. A few years back we upgraded our Samba3 domain to Samba4 using the classicupgrade method. After a few stumbles we got there and now have 9 DC's globally all running 4.5.0. We dropped the ball when naming our domain and now need to change it. This has led me down the path of attempting to join a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine as a DC and then run the RENDOM tool

Problem joining a Win2008R2 DC
Hello, this is now my second attempt to join a Windows Server 2008R2 DC to a samba AD domain. I had to forcibly remove the first 2k8 DC from the domain after I messed it up completely in the first try. I followed "Demoting an Offline Domain Controller" from the wiki here. This time joining fails right during running dcpromo. I get the error that it could not replicate

DNS problems when adding samba DC to win2008R2
Hello all,I'm trying to add a self compiled samba 4.12 DC to a Windows 2008R2 domain.Adding the samba DC was troublesome but successful (I had to modify join.py as I swa in another thread "Join Samba to a Windows AD ERR_DS_NO_CROSSREF_FOR_NC". After that I could join the samba DC and everything seemed ok. But now, when I check the DNS server on the samba DC using the windows DNS
