can't authenticate from Windows 7/Pro machines [RESOLVED]
Forgot to install ntp. The clocks were out of sync so things failed.
---------------------
I'm running Debian/Jessie in a fresh install after some severe system
problems. The install went smoothly except for an issue with grub-pc
acting up. Installing the version from sid cured that. I was still
having a hardware issue so I swapped out the motherboard and put in a
more modern one that

Share Access
Could someone help me understand if what I'm seeing with share access is
correct?
On my samba domain I have two users (user1 and user2) and one share; the
share has attribute "writelist = user1".
On a linux machine I:
mount the share with "mount -t cifs -o username=user1"
successfully open a file in the share for writing with the perl "open"
function

XP Pro password change problem
I've set up NT domains from scratch and things work. However, in this
case I vampired the old settings over to my new Samba PDC from a W2K
server which I then removed from the network. Everything almost works,
except ...
The main thing is that I can't seem to change the domain passwords from
the XP Pro workstations. Normally you do Ctrl-Alt-Del and select change
password, then fill

SATA - SIL3112A controller
Hi folks,
I have just installed a PCI SATA controller based on the SIL3112A
chipset into my Centos-3 (latest kernel patches applied) system and
moved an existing (not the boot disk) SATA drive from the onboard
controller to the SIL-based one so I can setup software RAID with two
300GB drives. Kudzu/Linux found the controller and drives straight away
and they've appeared as 'hda' and

Problems adding a printer share
I have added an HP Deskjet 600 to my debian etch system, using CUPS. It is
working fine.
I would like to set it up so that I can occassionally print to it from a
Windows 9x machine. This is where I seem to be having trouble.
I consulted the HOW-TO docs on the samba site, but they are quite detailed
and confusing (for me).
I don't want to do anything that will cause the printer to work

Based on what is mentioned in the troubleshooting guide, does this mean that
I would never be able to get the Echo

changing passwords from Windows XP Pro workstations
Back to square 1! I stripped out my unsuccessful attempts to get Samba
working with LDAP on my Debian Sarge server and am back with a tdbsam
backend. I actually tried to purge as much of the old Samba & LDAP as I
could then reinstalled fresh. This included removing the Windows groups
and users and even the old tdbsam data.
Unfortunately, I'm back where I started - users can't

4.2.14 (or newer) support "Windows for Workgroups 3.1a"?
There may be various "signing" parameters that you may need to set to
"no" on the samba PDC.
I would also disable SMB3. Windows 10 does support SMB3 but (in my
experience) Samba does not properly implement it, so you will get
problems. Windows 7 does not support SMB3 so will fall back to SMB2
anyway.
I suspect at this point making Windows 7 and Windows 3.11 interact

ethernet interfaces swapped around
One of my systems have two onboard NICs which uses the e100 and e1000
drivers (yes, the interfaces are not the same). This system kickstart
fine with CentOS 3.x. I recently tried to rekick it with CentOS 4.x
but was unsuccessful in doing so. When kicking CentOS 4.1, the
interfaces are swapped around, i.e. eth0 becomes eth1 and eth1 becomes
eth0 (as described at

net logon scripts not running
I am running Samba4 on a Debian/Jessie AD DC. I have a network netlogon
share with a single script in it. This .bat file is referenced in the
ADUC profile and I can navigate to the netlogon share and run it, where
it does what it is supposed to do.
However when I log onto the workstation, it never executes. For example,
it maps a drive but the drive is not mapped after a logon.
