New Standard/Daylight time-change dates in rhel4u2 but not centos4.2?
>From a login on a machine with rhel4u2
I can execute the following commands and get
the indicated output:
date --date="Mar 25 15:00:00 UTC 2006"
Sat Mar 25 10:00:00 EST 2006
date --date="Mar 25 15:00:00 UTC 2007"
Sun Mar 25 11:00:00 EDT 2007
As you can see, the output differs for 2006 and 2007. That
indicates that rhel4u2 includes changes required by the

Indiana timezone changing
I have a couple questions... I am in Indiana and our time zone is changing.
I used to choose America/Indiana/Indianapolis as the zone and we are
changing
to Eastern.
Question 1) Is there a command line only way to change my timezone?
I dont have access to X to run system-config-time. Doing a
"system-config-time --help"
or "system-config-time -h" did not give any information.

New Standard/Daylight time-change dates in rhel4u2 butnot centos4.2?
Which is why I always symlink /etc/localtime Not only does it solve
these issues, but it makes it very clear which timezone is selected!

using true UTC timezone everywhere
One problem with the daylight savings is that they mess with reporting
tools that use timestamps. I guess an application could be configured to
log UTC instead of local time, but that's not always doable.
Also, if you have servers in several different timezones, it's better if
all systems follow the same clock.
So, I'm thinking it's perhaps better if I just use

DST and VM timestamp
Who is tired of dealing with DST changes?
I have asterisk running on FC4, FC4 has been patched and shows the
correct MDT timezone and time.
Email notifications of voicemail show the message time an hour early
(standard time, not daylight). This si the time in the message body, not
the email delivery time, so it is coming form asterisk wrong.
I did a reload after correcting the

Replay mail to test MTA + filtering
Hi All,
My kit : Centos4.4 + Postfix + SA + ClamAV (not that its relevant)
General question - Does anyone know of a product which can take a folder
/ mbox
of mail (spam, ham, virus infected stuff, scam mail and hoaxes) and
"replay" it back
against a test server to determine the servers ability to filter?
I have looked at some low level (IP) packet replayers, but i cant really

wget not in minimal install
Hi All,
I used to always do a minimal install with v4.4, and wget
(and other tools) was included.
With v5 if i untick *everything* in the installation (incl
"base") so that i can install from 1 cd, wget is not included.
I couldn't make sense of any of the xml or xml.gz files on
the installation cd. (/dev/cdrom/repodata/*), although they
do mention wget as 'default'

tzdata - extra info.
Sorry for the extra info required, but I had digest mode turned on and
wouldn't have received the mailing till tomorrow.
I have since updated the data manually, but after 'yum update tzdata' was
run, the zdump -v for EST5EDT and America/New_York all still showed a date
of April 1, instead of March 11. After manually fixing, it is correct.
This was mostly a question about why yum

Why tzdata-2007h [RHEA-2007:0928-05] only for CentOS 2?
I might be stupid and ask an idiot or offensive question, but here it is:
"Why was tzdata-2007h [RHEA-2007:0928-05] only released for CentOS 2, when
upstream has released it for all the versions?"
The guys from X/OS have released it for 5.0 along with the other updates (on
Oct. 9).
Are the "enhancements"... "not important" as long as they're not "security

tzdata
I read a few days back on the list where the tzdata rpm was to take care of
the new DST rules. I run CentOS 3 servers, and did a 'yum update tzdata' ,
but received a 2006a update of the rpm.
Is this proper? It sure didn't fix anything.
Thanks

tzdata, Greenwich zone: URGENT!
Hi!
It appears that there have been some changes to tzdata recently. We
run an application that needs the server to stay at GMT. Previously, we
used the Casablanca timezone but now there seems to be a 1 hour
difference to GMT. I checked the London zone and they seem to change
time too.
I tried to change the zone to GMT with system-config-date (i'm using
command line remotely) but

HP (compaq) RAID - How to get alerts?
Hi All,
Background: I have HP RAID setups (Smart Array 5, shows up as
/dev/cciss/c0d0) on my DL380s, and they run great with CentOS. I have
had a drive failure (HDD lights up amber), so I pulled the HDD, replaced
it and the RAID controller rebuilt the array in a jiffy - no probs.
My question: I cant find anything in the logs to alert me that a drive
failed - this makes sense since the RAID

pptp, ipsec and vpn
Hi All,
This is a general VPN question;
PPTP VPNs seem to be very easy to set up with CentOS as the VPN server
and the built-in windose client, but how do list members feel about the
security vunerabilities reported with the MS implementation?
Specifically the 6 problems reported here :
http://www.schneier.com/pptp-faq.html
or maybe im being paranoid?
Would any of you roll this solution out

X-Windows Login
I have a server with all the x-windows stuff installed. But it's
giving me a text based login prompt on the console.
I can log onto the console, and run
gnome-session
and GNOME comes up fine. How do I turn it on so that I get a X-Window
GUI login prompt?
